Introduction to the Turbulent Era: Born in 1914 in Gwangju, Jeollanam-do, North Korea (now South Korea). As a child, Zheng Lucheng suffered from a stutter and began learning the violin after he was discovered to have musical talent. In 1919, the "March First Movement" against Japanese colonial rule broke out in Gwangju. Under the influence of the patriotism of his father and brother, Zheng Lucheng developed strong anti-Japanese sentiments. In 1933, Zheng Lucheng's three brothers successively sacrificed their lives for the revolutionary cause of North Korea and China. The 19-year-old Zheng Lucheng came to China with a group of progressive North Korean youths and entered the Nanjing "Korean Revolutionary Cadres" run by North Korean anti-Japanese groups in China. He studied at the "School" and participated in anti-Japanese organizations such as the Korean revolutionary organization "Yiyue Tuan" and the "Korean National Liberation League".
