Introduction to the Bethune statue: Norman Bethune (1890-1939), a member of the Canadian Communist Party and an international communist fighter. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, in March 1938, in order to aid the liberation cause of the Chinese people, he was dispatched by the Communist Party of Canada and the Communist Party of the United States and traveled thousands of miles to China, where he shed his blood on Chinese soil.
