Travel Notes | Columbia Park, a petty bourgeois and exotic Internet celebrity spot in Changning District, Shanghai

On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, I got together with my best friends. After dinner, I went to visit Columbia Park, a popular place on the Internet.

A hundred years ago, this place was a leisure and entertainment paradise for foreign expatriates. In the 1950s, it became the Shanghai Institute of Biological Products.

Now it is a quite bourgeois and exotic park, open to the public.

The most popular one is undoubtedly the swimming pool affiliated with the Navy Club.

This is the only remaining open-air swimming pool of the modern overseas Chinese association in Shanghai. The mosaic appearance has clear patterns, exquisite decoration and is well preserved.

It feels like a Turkish or Moroccan style.

The Navy Club Gym in Figure 1 was used as a show venue by many big brands in the past. It was once used as a culture workshop of the Shangsheng Institute. It was transformed into a show venue with industrial style and lighting, which is retro and modern.

The Tsuta (niao third tone) Bookstore is now located in this historic Columbia Country Club building. You need to make an appointment in advance to enter the bookstore.

The only thing in Columbia Park that requires a ticket to visit is the Sunco Villa.

Sun Ke is the son of Sun Yat-sen and his first wife Lu Muzhen. This villa was designed by the internationally renowned architect Hudec, the same architect who designed the International Hotel and the Grand Guangming Cinema.

Sunke Villa was built in 1931 and has a history of 90 years.

This is a mixed building based on Spanish and Italian Renaissance styles. It covers an area of about 8,000 square meters and has a construction area of 1,000 square meters. The main building is in Spanish style, such as bricks and flat roofs; changeable window frames It is in the Baroque style, with flat arches and arcs; the shape of the pointed arch is quite Islamic; the chimney on the roof is in the Italian Renaissance style.

This building was once used as the office of Shanghai Institute of Biological Products.

Since reservations are required in advance, people like us who go there temporarily cannot get in. After admiring the surroundings, our friend took us to a wonderful place, which is a tall building next to it. There are stairs leading to the top of the building. From the top of the building, you can overlook the entire Sunke Villa, and the view is excellent!

It turned out that on the top floor of a building next to it, the entire floor was covered with floor-to-ceiling glass. Where the bamboo curtains did not cover it, you could see a very elegant bathroom, living room, and most importantly, a long sky swimming pool. We were immediately envious! It’s so comfortable!
