Jianshui is the first stop on our spring trip to Yunnan. Although I passed by in a hurry and did not take a closer look at the purple pottery that filled the street, I had a delicious meal of local delicacies. As seasoned foodies (I’m not ashamed to say that), in just one meal, we were able to fully appreciate the hotel’s antique decoration, simple utensils, fresh ingredients not found elsewhere, and delicious products... The ancient water city has a profound culture. Once the foodie's first task is completed, this place will be filled with satisfaction.

The ancient city of Jianshui is one of the five "famous historical and cultural cities" in Yunnan. It has been the capital of southern Yunnan since the Ming Dynasty until the Republic of China. Confucianism flourished, and it is known as a "famous country with literature" and a "Linban City". Jianshui was called Lin'an in ancient times. The number of people who passed the imperial examination accounted for more than half of the people in Yunnan. It is the ancient city with the most complete preservation of Han Confucian culture in Yunnan.

Jianshui Zhujia Garden is a group of large-scale residential buildings from the Qing Dynasty, known as the "Grand View Garden in Southern Yunnan". It was the home and ancestral hall built by the wealthy gentry Zhu Weiqing brothers in the late Qing Dynasty. It contains profound cultural connotations in its rich form.

Two people, three dishes and one soup. The soup is Yunnan steam pot chicken using Jianshui purple pottery as the food. The first dish is "grass sprout meat slices". Jianshui grass sprout is a seasonal vegetable that is only found in Jianshui area. It grows in the water and looks like ivory, so it is also called ivory vegetable. , looks like lotus root strips common in the Yangtze River Basin. After the grass sprouts are collected, they must be soaked in water before being taken out when cooking. Grass sprouts are milky white in color, sweet, crisp and tender. They are delicious stir-fried or cooked with other meats. Dish 2: Double combination of glutinous rice sausage, glutinous rice blood sausage and glutinous rice lotus root on one plate. It is crispy, soft and glutinous, and is both a dish and rice. Dish 3: Vegetarian double flowers, stir-fried broccoli and cauliflower.

Jianshui grilled tofu, which became popular because of "China on the Tip of the Tongue", must be eaten at street shops to have an authentic taste. A few people were sitting on small benches, surrounding a small brazier with an iron shelf on top, on which square-inch tofu was roasted until it turned brown. After the diners eat a few pieces of tofu, the store will take out a few corn kernels. When paying, they will count the corns so that they are clear.
