Yunnan is a good place. Recently, among the 10 friends who rode donkeys, seven or eight of them went to Yunnan, especially Xishuangbanna.

But what Qi Lv wants to say is that while most tourists are heading to Dali, Lijiang, and Xishuangbanna; those who know how to eat have already secretly headed to another low-key border town in Yunnan!

It is not as crowded as Dali or Lijiang, and it has more Southeast Asian style than Xishuangbanna. The key is that if misses it, will miss half of the Yunnan food scene!

It may have never been included in your travel list, but if you want to say where in Yunnan the food is the best and where the life is the laziest and most leisurely, then you can’t avoid it.

Chen Xiaoqing focused the camera here many times in "The World of Flavor" ;

"Tian Tian Shang Shang", "Charming China Town", "Small Town Story" , etc. have all called for it;

After the opening of direct flights, experienced foodies even flew in on weekends to look for food.

They are Mangshi, Ruili, Yingjiang County, Longchuan County, and Lianghe County respectively)

If you are a foodie, you must come to Dehong. "Dehong is delicious" is a secret and tacit understanding among Yunnan people.

There are so many delicious foods here. Whether it is the combination of various baits, the green leaf feast which is more sumptuous than hot pot, or the luxurious configuration of Yunnan delicacies: hand-made rice noodles, it sounds heavy in taste , but the SaPi is addictive to eat and makes people want to stop eating it.

This place is only half a village away from Myanmar. You can reach out and touch the fences of neighboring countries, and you can experience the exotic scenery without going abroad.

Highly saturated blue sky flowers, tall palm banana trees, golden Buddhist temples, monks wearing orange cassocks, dense tropical rain forests, oversized tropical fruits, and Southeast Asian delicacies can be found everywhere on the streets...

In short, why go all the way to Thailand and Myanmar? Dehong is not inferior at all... Today, we will relax with donkey riding and go to Dehong to find food and enjoy the scenery.

1. A seriously underestimated treasure food city

Five meals a day, I wish I had more stomachs to fill it!

early morning

Start with a steaming bowl of bait shreds

A big bowl of steaming Yaosi, mixed with various side dishes, and paired with a cup of juice or Burmese milk tea is the most common Dehong breakfast .

People who eat bait silk for the first time are often confused:

Bait silk includes: soaked bait silk, wide bait silk, Tengchong bait silk, Burmese bait silk...

Soup bases include: meat, chicken, beef in clear soup, braised beef, sour beef...,

The hats include: pickled vegetable puffs, beef dumplings, sauce puffs...

Condiments include: chili, grass fruit noodles, pepper noodles, garlic/sesame/pepper oil, salty/sweet soy sauce, rice vinegar, sour papaya water, fresh lemon, green onions, large/small coriander, mint, celery...

The flavors vary greatly depending on the ingredients used.

Have a bowl of shredded fish in the morning, paired with local sweet soy sauce and fresh lemon juice . The taste is sour, sweet and soft, which will instantly wake up your taste buds for the day.

Lunch

Try the most luxurious hand-made rice noodles in the rice noodle world

Yes, that's right. It's either "crossing the bridge" or "passing over." Yunnan’s gourmet cuisine is inseparable from rice noodles; Dehong’s gourmet business card is inseparable from hand-made rice noodles.

An authentic hand-made rice noodle is often paired with radish soup, tofu soup, lettuce, sour soup and various side dishes. When one portion was served, the table was full, which can be said to be very "luxury".

©: W_Yan Wang Yan

The most authentic way to eat it is to put a ball of rice noodles in the palm of your hand, then stir it with a little sauce and put it into your mouth together.

△For those who don’t dare to do it directly, you can use gloves ©: I don’t even know you

The red rice noodles are oily and soft in the mouth, and the ingredients are fresh and delicious, so delicious that you want to lick your fingers. After finishing the rice noodles, I had some tofu soup, which was refreshing and satisfying to my stomach and taste buds.

The most popular among the locals is Kusa. The dipping sauce is usually the undigested grass juice from the cow's cecum, mixed with seasonings such as salt, chili, star anise, bay leaves, and the bitter water from the cow's small intestine.

Sounds like dark cuisine? But how many people can’t stop after just one bite.

Friends who love spicy food can try the hot shabu shabu that "looks spicy in the eyes and chokes the nose in smelling it. If you dare to chew the food, you are considered a warrior".

Have a heartier green leaf feast than hot pot

Green leaf feast, whether it is rice or vegetables. They are all served in green leaves, which is very distinctive.

The key is that all kinds of dishes will appear at the banquet, including "pounding, roasting, boiling, chopping, frying, pickling, and mixing." You can eat all the special dishes of the Jingpo people in one meal.

Hand-picked rice

Dehong's hand-picked rice is famous, but it may not be what you think. The hand-picked rice here is not a bowl or a basin, but a dustpan and a table!

The first time I ate it on a donkey in Dehong, I was frightened by its heroic appearance.

©: W_Yan Wang Yan

Circles of rice of various colors are placed on the inside of a round dustpan, and special dishes are placed on the outside. There was a whole table, and I felt satisfied even before it started.

When eating, shape the vegetables and rice into "rice balls" with your hands and put them into your mouth together. The aroma of rice and vegetables blend together in your mouth. One word, fragrant, two words, really fragrant!

Ghost chicken

Shred the chicken and mix with spicy millet, coriander, lemon, etc. The smell is a bit pungent, but once the chicken enters the mouth, all the spices are perfectly combined and rich in layers.

Night snack

Mangshi BBQ , the leader in Yunnan barbecue industry

Whenever night falls, barbecue stalls of all sizes on the streets become lively. Especially in Mangshi, the late-night canteens at barbecue stalls are even more addictive.

From meat skewers, veal tendons, pig tails, tripe, grilled fish, to leeks, small melons, cabbage, tofu... Mangshi BBQ grills everything.

The most special thing about the barbecue here, which you can’t eat elsewhere, is the plate of pickled vegetables dipped in water.

Delicate pig brains, paired with cool mint leaves, the deliciousness explodes in your mouth when you bite it.

Lemongrass with its own lemon fragrance is grilled together with delicate tilapia. The fish tastes charred and tender with a faint lemon fragrance.

2. Achieve fruit freedom in a tropical paradise

Extra-large fruit, you can walk on it while holding on to the wall

tropical fruit

The fruits here are all in extra-large sizes

There are not only many types of fruits here, but they are also all extra-large. Avocados are bigger than oranges! The point is, it's very cheap, which is equivalent to "no money" if you round it off.

There are also many tropical fruits you may not have seen before. Come here and eat the fruit with an open stomach! △Goat Milk Fruit©: Mulan 520

Especially in Mangshi in March, the fruit is super abundant. Each street has its own kind of fruit, mango, longan, jackfruit... Even the city landscape trees are all mango trees. It is worthy of being a "Mang" city.

Fruit salad

Unlock new ways to eat spicy and sour fruits

Cut the fruit, marinate it with chili pepper and sour water, add lemon juice and olive juice, and stir together. It tastes sour and spicy, especially in summer. It is even more appetizing when you have no appetite.

juice

Real stuff, if you don’t drink it, you’ll be at a loss

The juices here are all freshly squeezed on site, and no corners are cut. Tropical fruits are directly squeezed with condensed milk, and the taste is original and sweet.

For those who have never tasted freshly squeezed juice after visiting Dehong, it can be said that they are at a loss.

Ruili·One Village and Two Countries

I accidentally left the country in a matter of minutes

Next to boundary marker No. 71 on the China-Myanmar border, there is a village that is divided into two, with Yinjing in China on one side and Mangxiu in Myanmar on the other. You can reach the melons on the bamboo fence in Myanmar with your hand, and it only takes one step to return home from abroad.
