The journey of poor and lower-middle peasants in the coconut wind and the sea --- D0: Starting from the past of cycling
Cycling old stories

Learned to ride a bicycle during the Cultural Revolution.

At that time, Mojia Road was a gravel road about 1km long. The roofs of the houses on both sides were paved with earth, grass and mud. This is what people below mean when they say that the roofs in Qinghai can race. In summer, a lot of green grass will grow, and the land will be lush and green. Most of the walls facing the street are made of black wooden boards. The more wooden boards are removed, the larger the doors will be, like today's paved houses. There were actually two or three carriage and horse shops on this street. The carriages, with wooden wheels nearly human height and nailed with iron nails as thick as fingers, moved slowly, rolling over the gravel and clattering.

This is where my first ride started.

At that time, the children's entertainment included throwing round iron pieces against the wall to see who could bounce far, hitting the ground with their hands or slapping the outside of their feet to see who could flip the pictures more, bouncing glass balls on the ground, and riding bicycles. It is a luxurious and luxurious thing for children and kings to play with. What was compared at that time was not the distance but the time and speed of both hands. As a result, I was extremely happy and sad. I broke my arm and bent the chicken thigh (crank) of the car. Not daring to speak, with only two cents that I had saved for a long time, I quietly pushed the car to the car shop and asked the master to repair it. I was surprised to see that the chef put down the bowl and chopsticks, stood up, and used the front fork of his bicycle to repair the thick chicken thigh that could not be turned 15 degrees with a gentle twist like magic. It's that simple! His eyes were filled with gratitude, and he burst into tears and swallowed them in his chest. He pushed the car home with relief. But misfortunes never come singly, and my arm became more and more painful and swollen. I had no choice but to tell my parents the truth half swallowed. My old father said nothing and immediately took me to see a doctor for bone setting. It hurt me so much. I used all my strength to hold my breath so as not to cry like a ghost.

I will start a long-distance cycling tomorrow, so let’s use this old story as an introduction.

Food, clothing, housing, transportation and equipment

Don't comment on local tyrants. Those with special needs are a different matter.

One, clothes

It is best to use quick-drying clothes and pants. Two sets are enough for a change. It is recommended to bring a set of shorts and a set of long pants. The closer you get to Sanya, the higher the temperature will be, so it’s suitable to wear shorts. As for sun protection, it depends on the individual. It’s good for people like me who don’t participate in outdoor activities to get more sun. Moreover, this Hainan ride will encounter more cloudy and cloudy weather, with only about a quarter of sunny days. The weather in Hainan at this time may be like this. . It's windy here, so it's a good idea to bring a windproof jacket or a compressible cotton coat. It's still very cold in the morning and evening, especially when it's windy at the beach. Note that you need to bring a raincoat. It rains here from time to time, and even a drizzle will make you drown in a short time. It's best to prepare a disposable one. Don't bring a police-style raincoat and rain pants like I did. Not to mention they are heavy and take up space. Bring another set of casual clothes for daily wear. It’s better to use a towel that dries quickly, otherwise it will smell bad quickly. Use thin socks and wash them every day. Thick socks won't dry the next day, which is a bit troublesome. It’s a good idea to bring a pair of slippers, which are suitable for both cycling and non-cycling use. It’s best to choose light, thin and hard ones instead of heavy, thick and soft ones. Finally, bring a few more magic towels. In addition to its normal functions, it can be used for washing your face, bathing, and wrapping your head and face. Its unexpected functions are waiting for you to discover.

Two, food

For breakfast, stick to eating before departure. The nearest noodles or rice noodles (called noodle soup or rice soup here) or soy milk, fried dough sticks, and steamed buns and flatbreads are available. It is recommended to add 2 eggs to supplement the body and physical needs. It is cheap at the western line farm section, 1 yuan 1 piece, 2 yuan or 3 yuan for 1 piece elsewhere (three yuan also needs to be added). Of course, you can also find Lanzhou Ramen and Rice Bowl. The portions are large, but there are no eggs. Meat is not as good as eggs.

For lunch, there are places to eat in all towns and villages. It is convenient and cheap. It is good to eat fast food. Generally, a small portion is 15 yuan and a large portion is more than 20 yuan. Most of the rice can be added for free. It is enough. There are several combinations of stir-fry dishes. You can come across or find more than ten stir-fry dishes. The fast food you grow will be more selective. If you are interested, you can also order a plate of peanuts and some revolutionary wine to relieve your fatigue. I recommend the locally produced rice wine, which is less than 30 degrees and costs 5 to 6 yuan a bottle. It is produced in Guangdong. It costs 12~13 yuan a bottle, which feels pretty good. It is not advisable to drink alcohol to a high degree, as it can easily lead to extreme happiness and sadness. Fast food is a specialty here, and there are many people eating there.

For dinner, it depends on personal interests. There are many places to eat and drink near where you live. Sichuan cuisine, Northeastern stew, and seafood can be found everywhere. It’s up to you.

On the way, it is recommended to replenish water and eat at any time, such as compressed dry food or chocolate, otherwise you will be unbearably hungry and thirsty.

Eat, an average of 50 yuan a day, except for eating and drinking.

Three, live

It is recommended to choose a cycling inn or youth hostel. There are two famous inns in Hainan. One is 517, and the other is Feiteng. The flying route is better arranged, but you must use "Walker" and 517 must use "Blackbird". The two are incompatible with each other, which also made me hesitate for a long time. Duoduofeng uses the Blackbird, and using both at the same time may cause problems. I lost some data records and reluctantly gave up. Of course, there are hotels in the towns and villages we pass by, and the price is as above, so if we make a counter-offer, we can only pay back 10 yuan. The price is mostly about 40 yuan/bed (six-person to four-person room). If two or more people are traveling together, you can choose double-price, which is generally the same price and is more economical and comfortable. The cost of accommodation is roughly RMB 50 per day on average.

If you are afraid of snoring, you can put on headphones or put a wet napkin into your ear hole. It is best to use labor protection soundproof earplugs, which can avoid 80% of the snoring sound. Of course, if you are good at snoring, you don’t need to wear it. Let’s see who is better.

Four, OK

This time I rode an average of 100 kilometers a day. I didn’t see many attractions or play places, but mainly rode bikes. In addition, after riding for several days in a row, it may be due to age or other reasons. Riding more than 130 kilometers a day still feels quite tiring. To play well and ride well, it is recommended to do your homework in advance. You can refer to the introduction of Feideng or 517.

Five, equipment

Helmets, glasses, gloves and tire repair tools are a must. I emphasize bringing a spare tire and chain oil. There is a lot of sand here, so adding some oil can save a lot of trouble. Within a few days, the transmission parts will make abnormal noises. Also, when taking a break, I often check whether there are foreign objects in the tire, such as gravel or glass. Fortunately, I checked several times, and each time I found dozens of pieces, and there were even thin steel wires and the like. It is recommended to bring picking tools, such as needles, paper clips, etc. It is recommended to wear a gas mask. Although the overall air quality in Hainan is good, when riding on roads, including national highways, provincial roads and county and rural roads, the air pollution is very serious. Pay attention to "very", with thick smoke and flying dust. The main pollutants are motor vehicle exhaust and dust, which are almost suffocating. Don’t exercise your muscles but damage your lungs while riding.

Bring some emergency medicine, such as anti-mosquito bites, anti-tummy medicine, headache, brain fever, and hemostatic medicine. But you don’t have to bring it with you, there are many pharmacies on the road.

Don't wear a car lock, it's useless. You can lock yourself, but you can't lock others.

There are also combination tools that are not very useful and not easy to use. It is good to bring a 4, 5, or 6 six-pin socket for a clean and tidy tool, plus a commonly used screwdriver.

Cycling panniers are not necessary, and they are terrible. In fact, backpacks are very useful. It does not mean that you carry them on your back, unless you have a tough ass and a waist made of steel, but you can stuff them with stuff and use road inner tubes on the rear rack. It's very comfortable when you get in, front, back, left, and right, and it's not burdensome when you get off the car.

Start the Coconut Wind and Sea Journey: Guangzhou to Haikou, cycling around Hainan Island

Planned distance: 2000~5000Km

▲The bicycle was consigned to Guangzhou Station through China Railway Express. There was no need to pack it. Just wrap the paint easily with thin foam. Make sure it can still be ridden or at least pushed. The railway staff pushed the whole bike onto the train. It was very easy. Convenient and very safe.
