Kenya Travel Notes
plan
When you start planning a trip, the trip has already begun.
After deciding on the destination, we started planning our trip to Kenya. There are so many strategies online, so I will share ours. If you have any questions, you can leave a message. If you know my friends and are interested, please chat privately.
Travel style
Because of the experience and fun of self-guided tours in Australia and Spain, as well as cost-saving considerations, we ruled out group tours and chose to contact local travel agencies directly, which is considered semi-self-guided. To be honest, it was a bit of a risk. Fortunately, Africa's tourism industry is quite mature, and with the support of reviews from websites such as "TripAdvisor", we felt a little more confident.
We sent 5 inquiries through https://www.safaribookings.com/ and received 5 quotations. Choose 2 of them for negotiation.
The quotation mainly includes accommodation, chartered car, driver and tour guide fees and tickets, etc. Three meals are included in the accommodation fee. In addition, the quotation does not include tips for the driver and tour guide (about 20-50 knives per day).
stay
Negotiation is actually not about price, but about finding the best hotel that meets your budget through communication between the two parties, and then asking the local travel agency to confirm it with the hotel immediately.
A few tips:
1. Most people go to Kenya during the peak season (July and August). At this time, tourists from all over the world come to watch the great migration of animals during these two months, so the rooms in each reserve are very tight, especially in some For chain hotels with high cost performance and guaranteed quality (such as Serena), you need to start booking at least six months in advance, and if possible, it is best to make reservations one year in advance.
2. The cost of accommodation in and around the reserve is the same as the housing prices in Shanghai, mainly depending on the location. Although the rooms in the reserve are expensive, they are sometimes sold out earlier. Because the reserve has door opening and closing times every day, you will have less effective safari time if you live far away.
Knowledge point : Safari meant hunting in the colonial era. Nowadays, you drive around to find animals and "hunt" with your eyes and camera. Safari is the main tourist attraction in East Africa.
You can usually find descriptions and pictures of hotels recommended by travel agencies online. If you are not satisfied, ask them to change them.
3. If going to Kenya is compared to a feast, the Masai Mara is the main course. You usually need to stay at least 3 nights, so you should consider it when comparing quotes.
4. The hotels in the reserve are divided into four grades from high to low, "luxury, light luxury, comfort, and standard." According to our experience this time, "expensive does have its reasons."
Later, I will introduce each hotel we stayed in during this trip one by one. It is a bit subjective, but it is all personal real experience. It is different from the articles on travel websites, you know.
Air tickets
We chose Ethiopian Airlines, connecting in Addis Ababa. The service, food, etc. are all good. I feel that the price/performance ratio is very high. There are also unexpected benefits. I won’t list them here.
visa
I won’t post the guide to electronic signature, but it’s easy anyway. Expressed in one sentence, "African brothers welcome you!"
Little Yellow Book
When going to Kenya or some other countries in Africa, you need to bring the International Certificate of Vaccination or Preventive Measures. Because it has a yellow cover, it is also called a small yellow book. Remember to make sure you bring it before departure, otherwise you will be severely chopped when you arrive in Africa. You may ask, isn't "African brothers welcome you"? It's true that brothers are fake, but "brothers will settle accounts clearly".
By the way, mosquito repellent liquid is sold when giving injections in China. We bought it but didn’t use it. We found that there are fewer mosquitoes and more flies in Kenya.
