Give us an overview of Alaska II - excluding cruise ships

Today we mainly take a look at the cruise route attractions and related matters.

There are many cruise lines departing for Alaska, mainly from Seattle or Vancouver, but also from San Francisco, and even from Yokohama, Japan. You need a U.S. visa and a Canadian visa to travel on a cruise, otherwise you may not be allowed to board the cruise ship.

The conventional routes of cruise ships are mostly concentrated on the southeastern coastal attractions adjacent to Canada on the map.

The Princess cruise linked below has many Alaska routes.

The following attractions are all inaccessible by land self-driving and must be reached by cruise ship:

Hubbard Glacier

Alaska's largest sea-entering glacier originates from Logan Peak, the highest peak in Canada. It is also one of the most spectacular glaciers in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve

Glacier Bay National Park is home to bears, caribou, snow sheep, whales, waterfowl and other animals. There are no roads in the national park, and the main way to visit it is by air tour by boat or plane.

Skagway

Tourists can enjoy the many natural scenery on the US-Canada border on the slow-moving century-old train. Taking the old North American narrow-gauge train, they can enjoy Alaska's rolling snow-capped mountains, rivers and lakes along the way. This little train is what attracts me the most.

Mendenhall Glacier

The glacier is adjacent to the Tongass National Forest and is the only glacier in the area that is accessible to cars year-round. Black bears, foxes, coyotes, porcupines, squirrels and other mammals can also be seen on the valley floor.

Misty Fjords National Monument Wilderness

It features snow-capped mountains, mist-shrouded glacial canyons, alpine lakes, steep waterfalls, a variety of marine life and sheer granite cliffs. Taking a cruise can take you directly to the center of the open fjord lake.

Creek Street in Ketchikan

Creek Street is Cotchikan's most famous pedestrian street, which was once a "red light street." The wooden houses built on high wooden stilts are very old, but they have been renovated into distinctive shopping streets.

In addition, there are many panoramic sightseeing trains in the mainland, which are also friendly to all cruise ships. There are many routes and they are all sightseeing routes.

Why is it only friendly to cruise ships? For example, there is a Denali Star sightseeing bus that goes from Anchorage south to north, and the scenery is great. But if you drive by yourself, when you arrive at Anchorage and return the car, you have to take a taxi to the train station. When you get to your destination, you still have to take a taxi to the car rental point. It would be okay if the destination was Fairbanks, but if it was Denali, it was nowhere to be found, there were no taxis, and there were no car rental stations, so I was stuck. Of course, you can also take a small train back and forth, but it’s a few hundred dollars one way, which is expensive enough, and poor people like me don’t even consider it.

Therefore, these small trains basically serve cruise ship tourists, and individual passengers only have sporadic tickets.

Above is the panoramic train, wow!

It looks like the cruise ship is also very good .

However, in fact, the scenic spots visited by the cruise ship may only be two or three of the above. Also, I always feel that you can wait until you can no longer walk and use a wheelchair before going on a cruise.
