Ningbo Garden Museum

It is adjacent to Yaojiang Gate in the east, Yaojiang River in the west, and Ningbo Grand Theater in the south. It is built in Ningbo Green Island Park.

Taking advantage of this unique geographical advantage of Ningbo is the Ningbo Garden Museum, which is also the first garden-themed museum in Zhejiang Province.

The summer sun is scorching hot. As soon as you walk into the museum, you will see pines, cypresses, bamboos and other trees scattered at different heights, which cast mottled shadows on the white walls, giving people a sense of coolness.
It cleverly utilizes the original ecological environment of Green Island Park and retains all the landscape trees on the site. This is one of the reasons why many people come to check in and take photos.
Bo The museum is divided into six exhibition halls. By walking through them one by one, you can understand the development of Ningbo garden history and culture. Follow the outer corridor to the first exhibition hall, which lists the budding and origin of Ningbo garden culture, which starts from the Hemudu period.
Broken pottery sherds with three-leaf and five-leaf patterns are carefully collected in glass showcases and were all unearthed in Hemudu. The scattered pottery bowls embedded in the soil were so broken that they could not be identified. Only by squatting down and looking closely can you see some lines.
Passing through Hanyue Pond, turn into the second exhibition hall, and arrive at the temple gardens from the Three Kingdoms period to the Sui Dynasty.
During this period, China went through division and reunification. When the scholars and officials in the Jiangnan area advocated seclusion and encircled the land for afforestation, temples and gardens in Ningbo sprang up and their incense continues to this day.

There is such a description about Tiantong Temple: "The temple is located at the foot of the mountainous Taibai Mountain, with the majestic main peak Taibai Peak on its back; East Peak, Zhong Peak and Rufeng Peak on the left; and Boyu Peak on the right, with a round and beautiful protrusion. , shaped like an overturned bowl, the flag peak is steep and precipitous, like a flag spreading, but in the south, the sky is vast and the mountains are far away, and a lush avenue of thousands of pines welcomes guests to the mountain. The Buddhist temple architecture and garden structure of Todaiji Temple in Nara, Japan, which has been preserved to this day, were rebuilt with the help of Ningbo craftsmen in the Song Dynasty. Before that, the minister in charge of its construction had crossed the sea to the Song Dynasty three times and studied the civil architecture of Ashoka Temple.

Another amazing thing about Tendo Ayu is that it makes full use of its geographical advantages and blends with the surrounding scenery. It is said that Tiantong Ayu is a temple, but they are more like a place for Ningbo people to enjoy the scenery and relax.

When I was a kid, adults always said, "How about taking you to Tendo Ayu?" I've been there a lot, and it's more like a yard at the door of your home that you can touch easily, so you don't realize how amazing it is. But this time After re-recognizing the architectural history behind it, I thought about visiting it again.
Go further and go to the third public garden exhibition hall. The largest public garden in Ningbo is Dongqian Lake. Everyone knows that Dongqian Lake is the back garden of Ningbo people.
It is fun to go to Dongqian Lake all year round. You can fly kites in spring, enjoy the summer breeze in summer, look at the reeds in autumn, and enjoy the lake scenery in winter. There is also Yuehu, which is closer to the city center and is also a famous public garden in Ningbo.

During the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, Guang built Pavilions The ten islands on the Moon Lake are: Bamboo Island, Moon Island and Chrysanthemum Island in the east of the lake, Huayu , Zhuzhou, Liu Ting There are also three embankments and seven bridges, and the Yanyu Island, Xueting Island and Furong Island in the west of the lake complement each other.

On display in the museum is a long relief sculpture of ten scenes of Moon Lake, which roughly simulates the overlooking scenery of Moon Lake. Through the glass, I couldn't get closer to take a closer look, let alone touch it, so I just took a general look.
Common garden buildings include corridors, pavilions, buildings, pavilions, pavilions, and boats. When it developed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, Tianyi Pavilion in Ningbo has to be mentioned. In the fourth exhibition hall, the architectural structure and ideas of Tianyi Pavilion are described in detail.

It is said that a man cannot stand without bones, and a garden cannot be built without stones. The rockery in front of the Tianyige Baoshu Building uses local materials and reef rocks from the local seaside. Tianyi Pavilion also introduced the living water of Moon Lake into the garden of the library, and set up streams and springs in the garden. This water also makes the garden scenery full of aura. This is the wonderful point of Tianyi Pavilion enriching the spatial level of the garden through stacking mountains and managing water.

As a native of Ningbo, I always feel proud when tourists from outside mention Tianyi Pavilion. However, I often only know the name of Tianyi Pavilion but don’t know what it is called. There are many Ningbo people around who have never even stepped into Tianyi Pavilion. Just because it is too familiar and too close, they gradually lose their curiosity to take a closer look.

Tianyi Pavilion is the earliest existing private library in China, the oldest existing library in Asia and one of the three earliest family libraries in the world. These are officially given to Tianyi Pavilion. Your name. In the eyes of Ningbo people, it is a study at the door of their home. When you get close to it, even the air becomes filled with the fragrance of books.

To this day, Tianyi Pavilion is still the first choice for holding cultural activities in Ningbo. It is a cultural landmark. With it, Ningbo’s cultural roots will never be broken.

The late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China was the early stage of the integration of Chinese and Western garden culture in Ningbo. When you walk into the fifth exhibition hall, the first thing you see is the introduction of Zhongshan Park. In the early days of the Republic of China, Ningbo did not have a park in the city, so in May 1927, in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Ningbo's first indoor open park, Zhongshan Park, was built.

After that, Ningbo's business exchange machine flourished, and guild halls and gardens officially emerged. The more famous ones are Qianye Guild Hall, Qing'an Guild Hall and Yu Qiaqing Guild Hall.

Yu Qiaqing is one of the outstanding figures of the Ningbo Gang. The former residence of Yu Qiaqing is located in Longshan, Cixi, facing south and slightly to the east. The architectural layout has a central axis running through the center of the building, stacked on the left and right, in an orderly manner, with clear layers and natural transitions. It is an example of the combination of Chinese and Western architecture in modern architecture.

Walking among these introductions, browsing the large and small photos, reaching out to touch the scaled down models. Suddenly I felt that it was a pity that I was not born in that era. I could not witness these buildings rising up in front of my eyes. I also thought that during this time travel, they had withstood the polishing of history and were no longer the same as when I first saw them. moving.
After walking out of the museum, I was able to recall the charm of many historical attractions in Ningbo. This journey couldn't help but urge me to speed up the pace of sightseeing.
