Before I filmed "The End of the World" in Dongji, I keenly discovered this "niche" parade destination and visited this small island with my gay friends. Unexpectedly, ten years later, I would have the opportunity to come to East Pole again. So, I share with you my travel notes from ten years ago.

This trip was very random. There was no plan. We just set a date and where to go, but no route at all. Although I had read some travel guides before, I also had some knowledge of some attractions. And because this is a trip with the theme of leisure and collecting scenery, I haven’t decided on a specific route. I just decide where to go once I get there. This is also the first time I went out without writing an itinerary. Sometimes it’s easier to be more casual when traveling.

This is also the first time I went out without writing an itinerary. Sometimes it’s easier to be more casual when traveling.

Set off to the end of the sea

What I never expected was that the cup of milk tea I drank before departure would make me diarrhoea. Since the early morning of the 15th, I have been going to the bathroom non-stop. And I couldn't find any medicine at home that could stop diarrhea. After being in pain for about two hours, I looked forward to going out smoothly in the morning. But the luckiest thing for me was that at around six o'clock in the morning, the first pharmacy I saw as soon as I left the gate of the community was open, so I hurried to buy medicine.

When I first arrived at the waiting room, I didn't think there were many people. Unexpectedly, when the boat was about to leave, the waiting room started to become crowded. Some carry very professional hiking bags, some carry very professional cameras, and some go with the whole family. In short, we suddenly became very small.

The boat arrived as scheduled, but the weather seemed to be getting worse. I checked the weather before going out and knew that it would be rainy these days, and I guessed that the sunrise would not be visible. The boat is not particularly big. Compared with the big ship I took to Jintang when I was a child, this boat is really small. However, I still feel scared after not taking a boat for a long time, especially such a long speedboat ride. Boarding the ship is the middle cabin, and going down the ladder is the lower cabin. I originally thought that everyone would sit casually, but I didn't expect that everyone was quite orderly and everyone took their seats. Zuowei and I were seated one behind the other, so we sat in a row first. Fortunately, no one came back in that row, and it was just the two of us. I originally thought I could go to the deck to enjoy the breeze and take photos, but I didn’t expect that my physical condition did not allow it. I started vomiting not long after I sat down, but after vomiting, I felt much better. By that time, I felt that all the contents in my stomach had been emptied, and all the vomiting was caused by the medicine dissolving in my stomach. After feeling dizzy, he fell asleep in a daze. After waking up, we were almost at Miaozi Lake.

When the boat docks, the announcement says that if you want to go to Miaozi Lake, please use the door on the right to get on the boat. If you want to go to Dongfu Mountain, please use the door on the left. I had heard before that the connection between the big ship and the small boat was seamless, but I didn't expect it to be such a connection. I stepped ashore on the right and boarded the Dongfu Ferry on the left. As for the left and right, we couldn't tell the difference at first, but later we discovered that there were very small words "left" and "right" written on the door frame. It turned out that this was how they divided left and right.

After getting on the small boat and sleeping for about two hours on the big boat, I felt that my strength had recovered by about 50% and I had the strength to speak. Therefore, after the boat sails, you can also go to the deck to take pictures. But the wind and waves were quite strong that day, and soon my newly recovered strength was knocked back to its original form, and I started to vomit. The big waves caused the ship to bump up and then sink immediately. The people sitting on the bow deck let out bursts of shouts. When they heard the shouts, the people in the cabin all laughed.

We finally made it to the shore, and everyone was waiting to get ashore. However, I still couldn't hold on until the last moment, so I had no choice but to run out and vomit. I was really embarrassed to dirty the side of the boat. This time it really made me spit out the sour water.

When we got to the shore, Zuowei contacted the innkeeper whom he had called before. The boss did not come to the pier to pick up tourists, but said he was here to pick us up. So we walked up the road and met the boss within a short distance. When the boss heard that I was "cheating", he said that her place had some medicine. I thought she would be kind enough to give me a pack, but it turned out that they sold it for three packs for ten yuan. I wanted to say it was really dark. Her small shop is located at the pier. After getting the medicine, we continued to follow her. She said that all the inns on the island were full that day, and only her brother's old house still had two rooms, which was why she didn't come to the pier to attract customers. After meeting her brother on the way, her brother took us towards the accommodation, further and further inside. Zuowei said that he would not be able to see the sea, so he used this reason to negotiate with the boss, and finally settled the deal at 35 per person per night. Along the way, the male boss was greeting the neighbors. Thinking of a text I learned in junior high school about Dongji, I remember that Lao Zhang said at that time that Dongji is really a place where you can keep your doors open at night. The boss also said the same, if it is hot at night, you can leave the door open, but in our hearts from the city That line of defense will not allow us to do such "extraordinary" things. The place where I live is on the mountain, and there is an empty room upstairs and downstairs. The boss said that the quadruple room downstairs had air conditioning and TV, so we stayed there. I saw the bed, asked for some water, mixed the medicine I bought before, drank it, fell down and went to sleep. As a result, the power went out before I could sleep, and the power didn't come back until the next morning. While I was drifting off to sleep, Zuowei went out for a walk for a while. When I woke up, she had already slept.

After waking up, my function returned to 70%, and we went out to look for food. I had agreed with the boss before that I would go to his hotel to have some porridge. We went out and found that the mountain road was not familiar at all. We doubted that we would not be able to find our way back. Going around and around on the mountain road, indeed all roads lead to the main road, and we came to the real Dongfu Fishing Village. The boss said there was no porridge, so he made rice for me. Zuo Wei ordered a bowl of seafood noodles. As a result, halfway through, she got a call saying that a boat had arrived at the pier and asked her to help, so she withdrew and asked us to wait for her. We thought about it and agreed. After she left for a while, her sister-in-law came and asked her to finish the other half. She magically found the cold porridge and heated it up for me. I also ordered a pack of pickled mustard.

After eating, we started walking up the mountain along the road. I really wanted to go to the windmill to take photos, but I was so exhausted that I couldn’t hold on until halfway up. We went back and walked downstairs. We saw a large reef not far away where we could sit and watch the sea, so we walked in that direction. Halfway through, I saw a lot of people having fun down below near the sea. Seeing the beautiful scenery of the crashing waves on the shore, it is a good time to experiment with the different wave effects brought by different shutter speeds.

After taking photos of the waves, we sat quietly on the big rocks on the beach. The weather was really nice at this time. Although it was cloudy, we could still see the blue sky and blue sea. The sea breeze was blowing, making me feel uncomfortable. Seeing such beautiful scenery, I have a strong desire to take some fresh photos. I asked my royal photographer, Comrade Zuo Wei, to take a group photo. The sea in East Pole is really beautiful. I have seen such a blue sea countless times in Qingdao before. It is really rare to see such a sea in Zhoushan, which is the estuary of the Yangtze River. Many people who don’t understand why the sea in Zhoushan is so yellow should be taken to see the sea in East Pole, which is so blue and equally turbulent.

I only took photos on the rocks for a while, and the rest of the time I just sat and watched the sea. The weather was still not good and it rained intermittently. Seeing that the time was almost up, I went to the boss's house for dinner. Because my physical strength has not yet recovered, I look a little tired. There was a group of people staying at the boss's house, and they ordered food, which was enough for two tables, because the food was always cooked in double portions. The boss didn't have time to pay attention to us for the time being, so he asked us to sit next to him for a while. After waiting for a while, the boss suggested that we join them. We wanted to order by ourselves, but we couldn't order a few dishes, and we could eat a lot of dishes with a group, so we agreed. The food was pretty good, and I really liked their fish soup, but my health was really not allowing me to eat more than a few bites. At the final checkout, the male boss asked us for twenty-five cents each. Later, the female boss said it was too much, so she charged us twenty-five cents each. Well, at first I thought that we could eat for free.

At night, the electricity still didn't come on. Zuowei and I considered that the windows on the first floor were small and airtight at night, so we moved to a double room on the second floor. I didn't even wash up much, so I just lay down and talked. This is also good. The island has a cool night breeze, so there is no need for fans or air conditioning. You can chat at night when there are no lights. In this era of electrical appliances, people who meet face to face have to use the Internet to chat. It is so rare to be able to lie down and chat without worries. You can still create some small works without lights. I used my small flashlight as a pen, and Zuo Wei and I studied how to take pictures of words written by light. However, I really have no talent for painting, and the hearts I draw look very special.

We chatted until about ten o'clock, then I fell asleep while talking. When I woke up, I was resurrected with full health.

There is no sunrise, but there is seafood noodles

The next day, our plan was to see the first ray of sunshine in China. I got up at four o'clock and found that there were extremely thick clouds and light rain outside. I thought I couldn't see the sunrise this time. Now that you're up, let's go up and watch the dawn.

We followed our guessed route and walked up the narrow mountain road, including two short sections of roadless road. As someone who is afraid of heights, I was really panicked. It was getting bright very quickly, and it was already bright before we even reached the high platform where we could watch the sunrise. A sign was erected on the high platform that read "World Dawn Observation Point". We wandered around for a while and it started to rain again, with signs of getting worse, so we started heading down. After walking only 1/3 of the way, bead-like raindrops started to fall on the spot. Because I was lazy when we went out, the two of us only brought an umbrella. The rain was getting heavier and heavier, and we quickly took shelter in the courtyard of a private house. The yard looked like it had been recently occupied, but no one was living there at the time. We hid under the eaves, and there was a small bench in the yard, so we sat down to have breakfast. Looking at the heavy rain, I feel a little depressed. After finally getting well, I traveled thousands of miles to the easternmost part of the motherland, but could not see the sunrise.

When the rain subsided, we immediately went back down the mountain to sleep. Not long after we returned, it started to rain heavily again. Just listening to the sound of rain, with regret, we fell asleep. When I woke up again, I could still hear the sound of "clattering" outside the window. I thought the rain had not stopped yet, and I was debating whether to go to Qingbang Island. When I got up and took a closer look, it turned out to be the sound of flood discharge from the ditch outside the yard. Going out, the original stone steps turned into small waterfalls. The boss came to give us a friendly reminder that it was almost time to go to the pier. We packed up our things and went to the pier to wait for the boat.

I passed the Chaoyin Cave on the way to the pier and found that the cave had been turned into a water curtain cave. This was quite interesting. After getting on the boat, we asked the ticket seller if there was still a boat to Qingbang at noon. After getting a positive answer, we disembarked at Qingbang midway. When the boat docked, the uncle shouted "Qingbang has arrived", but no one paid attention. He shouted again, "Qingbin has arrived," and a local uncle next to him smiled and shouted, "Qingbin has arrived, how about frying it and eating it?" We heard it and laughed out loud.

Qingbang Island is the legendary Potala Palace on the sea. The reason why it is likened to this is because the houses there are located in an orderly manner on the hillside. From a distance, it looks like the Potala Palace, and because it is a palace. The island is so named. From the pier, you can see that this place is much more prosperous than Dongfushan. There are piles of freshly caught seafood on the pier, and local residents are sitting aside mending fishing nets. A gust of wind blows, and the smell of seafood fills your nose. Looking at the island again, there are not many tourists. There are only a few B&Bs on the island. That's fine, you can walk around casually.

We walked along the shore towards the houses. Wandering around in the small alley, we thought there was no way forward, but suddenly we became enlightened, and a huge sea appeared in front of us. We walked to a fisherman's pier. There was no one at the pier, so we started a new round of photo taking activities. The rain is still falling intermittently, and shooting sketches on the beach is a challenging job. Not only do you have to rely entirely on your eyes to find the bright spots, but you also have to capture a different feeling in such a rainy day. After finishing the photo session at the pier, we continued to zigzag to another beach. This time the seaside is farmland and rocks.

On the way back, we felt a little hungry and wanted to find a small shop for a bowl of "instant noodles". The first shop only served fish and shrimp pan noodles. Zuowei didn't like eating it, so he gave up. Continuing to walk forward, there is a small shop called "Dadian", which has other flavors of instant noodles. We ordered two bowls and asked the boss to help us soak them.

Just after we finished a big bowl of instant noodles, on the way back, we heard the air whistle of the speedboat and couldn't help but start running. The boat obviously said 11:40, why did it come at 11 o'clock? Then I thought that this was probably the boat going to Dongfu Mountain, so we started walking slowly. When I arrived at the pier and asked the residents, I found that the local residents were not very clear about the changing sailing schedule. Some of them told me that there were no boats to Miaozi Lake, while others said that there were. We can only wander around the pier casually. Not long after, another boat came. I looked closely and saw that it was the "Dongji Lun". I asked the residents at the dock and said that this boat went directly to Shenjiamen. As soon as the boat sailed, the crowds on the dock suddenly disappeared, and the piles of seafood on the dock disappeared. Presumably, these seafood will become the dishes on the table at the famous Shenjiamen night food stall in the evening.

Just as the boat was about to leave, seven or eight people came running from a distance, shouting, as if they could not catch the boat. I heard their argument as a group of people came to play. One of them was a guide. The guide arranged to stay at Miaozi Lake for the night, but some people in the team didn't want to go to Miaozi Lake anymore (they had stayed the night before) and wanted to go directly to Shenjiamen. But there was no boat to Shenjiamen that day. Because of this, a group of people were making a lot of noise at the pier, which made us very upset. After a while, someone in the team called somewhere and wanted to take a helicopter that was recently opened. I wondered if they didn’t read Weibo. The chartered flight was 30,000 yuan, so I gave up because it was too expensive. The woman who insisted on going to Shen's family called her relatives and friends to tell them that they were stranded on an isolated island, and then charged 30,000 yuan for a chartered flight. I thought these people were really ridiculous. You must plan your transportation and accommodation in advance when you go out. You can change the attractions at will, go if you want to go, or not if you don’t want to go, but these two things are very important. If there are many people in a team, they must have a good plan for the itinerary and get everyone's approval. The leader of the team must stick to his word. Even if someone in the team complains, this person must be able to make the decision. A team like them will cause trouble wherever they go.

It was past twelve o'clock and the boat had not arrived yet. Everyone on the dock was a little anxious, including us. After waiting for another ten minutes, the boat finally arrived. The troublesome team also got on the boat with me. On the boat, we met the owner of Dongfushan Inn. She said that the accommodation in Miaozi Lake she helped us contact had picked us up at the pier during the last shift and said they couldn't find us. We laughed and said we were playing in Qingbang. She said that when we got there, she would accompany us to the inn.

Because my health is completely recovered today, I can go to the deck with Zuo Wei. When going out to play, your health is really your capital. Without good health, you won’t be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery. After docking, the Naoxin team said they wanted to charter a boat back to Shenjiamen. When the boat boss said it would cost 8,000 yuan, they felt it was too expensive. In fact, in this peak season, and the prices in Zhoushan are as high as 8,000 yuan, you can imagine. We got on the boat and ignored this group of people. When we were talking to the boss about accommodation on the boat, a young couple came and asked if they could stay there too. The boss agreed. When we arrived at the inn, the landlady said there was only one room left, so we stayed there and the young couple followed the boss to another place. The inn this time is located high on the pier. You can have a beautiful view of the sea and sky from the yard. It's a really good location.

After resting for a while, we immediately went to the rumored "Kobayashi Seafood Noodles". The store is right on the seaside. The store is not big, and there are several large umbrellas set up along the guardrail of the seaside. When we entered the store, we thought we could choose the ingredients by ourselves, but the proprietress said, "I won't miss you the ingredients" and drove us under the big umbrella. We could only sit down and wait for the boss lady's bowl of seafood noodles. After a while, the seafood noodles were served, steaming hot. Because our table is on a slope, the table top is slanted, and the full bowl of noodle soup overflowed at once. I hurriedly drank the soup. After one gulp of the hot soup, all the fresh internal organs were revealed. Compared with the seafood noodles in Dinghaizhu, I think the difference lies in the soup. This soup seems to have been specially prepared. It must be like this. The taste should not be cooked with ingredients. There are indeed a lot of ingredients, all kinds of things, all seasonal snacks, most of which are my favorite shellfish. For noodles, I chose rice noodles. I’m a weirdo and never like lasagna. Rice noodles also taste like rice noodles and taste just as delicious. This kind of delicious taste is worth trying all the time. While eating, some passers-by asked me if it was delicious. I was eating so deliciously that I had no words left to reply, so I could only nod.

After having enough wine and food, we started walking up the mountain. We walked back and forth four or five times on the road up the mountain. The first time I walked for a short distance, I just took a general look, looked at the time and thought the museum was open, so I came down. Since the third museum started free of charge, going to the museum is also a good choice. There was no one in the museum, no tourists, no staff, and no doors. Fortunately, there was natural light and my small flashlight. The second floor is an introduction to the Ribensimaru shipwreck incident. Only when we went there did we know what the incident was like. In the past, we had only a partial understanding. The sea not too close to Qingbang Island we went to in the morning was the place where the ship sank. It’s no wonder why we didn’t see signs like other attractions telling us that it was that place. Behind the museum is an exhibition hall of fishermen's paintings. I wanted to look for the residential houses full of fishermen’s paintings mentioned in the TV series, but it didn’t seem to be in Miaozi Lake. The fishermen's paintings are extremely exaggerated and bright. Not only do they not make me feel tacky, but they have a kind of cuteness in them. There are souvenirs for sale in the museum, and I bought a set of coasters painted by fishermen. It’s great to take these small things back and distribute them to relatives and friends. After leaving the library, go to the post office. The post office is located among the private houses on the corner of the slope. It is so hidden that if you don’t look closely, you wouldn’t even know it is the post office. Maybe it shouldn't be called a post office because it's just a "postal agency." There is only one desk inside, with no glass barrier or mailbox, and the working hours are only from 7:30 am to 11:00 noon. I found the post office and followed the instructions from the staff at the Fishermen's Painting Exhibition Hall to buy postcards from Taikolom for ten yuan each with stamps. I didn't know it, but I felt like I had made a real profit. Later, when we went to Friends of China across the street, someone happened to want to buy postcards, and they actually bought them for 12 yuan each. It seemed that I really made a profit. However, the pattern of this postcard is so rustic. Next time you go there, be sure to bring a postcard with your own photo printed on it.

After returning from the post office, we went back to the beach again, enjoying the sea breeze and taking photos. There is a big stone on the seaside with the two characters "Eastern Pole" written on it. Naturally, you cannot miss such a landmark. You must take a photo of your trip here. Coming back from the seaside and starting to walk that road again, we planned to go to the pavilion on the mountain to take in the scenery. It was not difficult to walk along the road. After walking for a while, I saw a "Dongxiang Pavilion" where you can see the sea. We sat down and enjoyed the sea breeze. There are no sea cockroaches or mosquitoes in such a highland. It is probably because the wind is too strong that the mosquitoes cannot stand. The wind was blowing, and here came a tripod guy from Shaoxing. This guy brought a professional tripod, and by comparison, we suddenly looked like amateurs.

It was still early, so everyone had no other plans, so they walked to another pavilion together. Going further up, I saw a big stone with the words "Second Hometown of Soldiers" written on it. There are several soldiers on the road under the stone, and there is also a female soldier. At first we thought they were ordinary islanders, but they shouted towards our back. When I turned around, it turned out to be soldiers training. We continued walking up and arrived at the military camp. From the outside, the military camp looks very complete with all facilities and the houses are well built and looks good. Brother Tripod asked for directions before and said that the pavilion was still up there. This time we had to go through a dirt road. I was afraid of heights, so Zuo Wei and I didn't follow. When I went down, I saw that the troops who had just been training were gathering for training. Zuo Wei said that we should go slowly and listen to what was being said, which basically meant that the slogans should be loud enough.

Coming down from the mountain, we took another path and planned to make a big circle. On this road, we saw the legendary helipad with a charter flight worth RMB 30,000, as well as the town government. I also saw a very Japanese-style house. Although it was obviously newly built, it was really beautiful. Because we took this road, we almost couldn't find our way back. We asked the residents if it could lead to the pier, and the uncle and aunt said yes. We continued walking hesitantly, and when we reached the end and didn't know where to go, Zuowei said we were going to the path between the two rooms to see if we could pass it. It turned out that we could pass it, and once we exited, it was Taikolong.

After returning to our place to rest for a while, we went to have dinner at Xiaolin Seafood Noodle House, but this time we had fried rice noodles. I have never eaten fried rice noodles before, and I don’t know about it. I recently learned about it because CCTV’s Coastal Tour introduced this delicacy. Considering that the fried rice noodles are very filling and must be a big plate, the two of us ordered one plate. The boss heard that we had come for lunch and ordered a bowl for two people, so he cooked us a big plate. This tastes really good. Drink a can of carbonated drinks and eat fried rice noodles, simple but delicious.

After dinner, the night food stalls on the beach became lively. I have always wanted to buy the whole grilled squid that I bought at the school gate, but it was not sold and the price was very expensive, so I had to give up. After returning to the room, I started watching TV after washing up. In the meantime, we ran out to take pictures of the night scene. There is no tripod, so I can only use the stool pad. Only when the ISO is opened to 1600 can the shutter speed be increased to an acceptable level. Zuo Wei couldn't stand the harassment of mosquitoes and left first. I continued to take pictures, and finally found a stack of plastic stools to take the last satisfactory night scene. The bite on Zuowei's foot that was bitten in Dongfushan turned into a mask for some reason, which shocked us all. The mosquitoes on this island have undergone natural selection, and only the elite remain.

return trip

When I woke up the next morning, I saw the sun shining brightly, so I wondered if I might miss the sunrise that I might see. Maybe this was a mistake. I wanted to find some breakfast on the island that could be eaten in Dinghai, but to no avail, I could only buy bread. Just when we decided to eat some bread, we actually saw a shop selling pancakes on the way back. The fried pancakes here actually sell for 1 yuan and 50 cents each. The main reason for the high prices is the inconvenient transportation here. After eating the pancake, we went back to watch TV. Not long after watching, the landlady came to ask if we were leaving that day. We answered yes and she asked us to prepare. So, we packed up our things and went to the dock to wait.

When we arrived at the pier, we went to pick up the tickets we had booked. We got them easily. We still had enough time to walk around the pier. There are rocks on the embankment, beautiful scenery, and the terrain is not dangerous, which is perfect for taking pictures. There I once again saw the statue of Cai Bo, which I described as a 360-degree blind spot. It was not unreasonable to complain online that it looked like the Statue of Liberty. After taking photos, I saw the Dongji Ferry slowly driving towards the pier, and then I ran towards the pier. When checking the tickets, we found that our tickets were group tickets, which were longer and better looking than the tickets we bought in person. We went early anyway, and the scorching sun made us sweat. Why did such good weather arrive two days late? The more I think about it, the more unwilling I am. This must be my excuse to come again.

On the way back to the boat, I saw the Naoxin team again. Sure enough, they were still reluctant to spend the money. The waves back home were not that big. After sleeping on the boat, we went to the deck to pose for various photos. The deck was full of people with guns and cannons, and we looked small again.
