Ramble

People who have entered Tibet will always hear a saying: " There would be no Tibet without Ali. " Some people also say: "Ali is the Tibet of Tibet and the most distant wandering of the human soul."

Along the way, you will see Tibetan antelopes running on the vast grasslands; a puddle of clear water in the desolate Gobi; the sun shines on the top of the snow-capped mountains; and devout people kowtow their long heads as they move forward. Here, you have everything you expect from Tibet: piety, sanctity, and tranquility.

About altitude

If you are traveling to Tibet for the first time, be sure to recuperate in Lhasa before arranging your itinerary in Ali, because the average altitude in Ali is above 4,500 (Lhasa is 3,650 meters above sea level). If you have obvious altitude sickness in Lhasa, it is not recommended to go there Ali.

About dressing

In July, Ali has a large temperature difference between morning and evening. Wearing a short-sleeved shirt and a thin jacket during the day is completely sufficient, but it is very cold in the morning and evening (especially in the morning) so most mornings a full suit is worn A jacket (including fleece) and a short-sleeved shirt during the day are enough, but you need to add a pair of pants when the weather is cold. If you go to Everest No. 1 Camp , you must wear windproof clothes. It is not particularly cold up there (it’s about 15℃ when you go up at 20:00), but the wind is very strong. If you don’t bring thick clothes, you can do so before entering the scenic spot. (Where you bought your first ticket) You can rent a military coat and return it when you go down the mountain the next day. The price is 100 yuan/piece. Also remember to wear a hat to keep your head warm.

About border defense permit

There are many places in the Ngari area that require a border permit to pass , including but not only including Tingri (Mount Everest), Zanda and other areas. It is best to apply for a border defense permit at the place where you have your registered residence. It is free and fast. If you really forget, you can also handle it at the Lhasa Border Defense Brigade, but it is very troublesome, especially in recent times. I have never done the specific process, so I will not mislead you.

About eating

There are many Sichuan restaurants and Northwest noodle restaurants along the way. It is best to buy some chocolate to take with you before leaving. On the one hand, it can relieve hunger and on the other hand, it can replenish sugar. Helps alleviate high reflexes.

About the difference between the Great Northern Line and the Southern Line

The entire Ali South Line is on asphalt roads, and the travel time span is about 8 to 10 days.

The Ali Dabei Line is longer and adds a trip to the northern Tibetan grassland on the basis of the southern line. Its "measure after measure" landscape is relatively famous ("cuo" means lake in Tibetan, and one measure after another means one after another). Continuous lakes), the tour time is about 13~15 days. At the same time, there are no roads in some areas of the Great Northern Line. You need to drive a strong and durable off-road vehicle to walk on dirt roads, cross rivers, etc.

Specific strategies

D1 Lhasa - Yamdrok Yumcuo - Karola Glacier - Shigatse

Total distance: 364km

Driving time: about 6~7 hours

Accommodation: Jikang Hotel (No. 18, Jijilangka Road, Shigatse City)

Yamdrok Yongcuo, referred to as "Yang Lake" by many people (not the same as Yang Lake in northern Tibet), is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet.

We set off late, and it was already afternoon when we arrived at Yamdrok Yongcuo, but at that time the clouds had just dispersed, and the blue sky made the lake water look beautiful blue, while those places with clouds had these dark colors. sinking, making the color of the entire lake richer. There will be a lot of yaks, Tibetan mastiffs, and lambs used for tourists to take pictures. Remember to ask the price before taking pictures. They are basically 10 RMB each time.

The Karola Glacier is one of the three continental glaciers in Tibet and has been filmed here in many movies. When we passed by, we only had a quick glance because of the rain, and we were not able to get a close look at this beautiful glacier.

D2 Shigatse—Langcuo Lake—Sangsang Prairie—Saga

Total distance: 448km

Driving time: about 7~8 hours

Accommodation: Saga Hotel (No. 6, Gesang Road, Saga County, Shigatse City)

We didn’t stop at any scenic spots on purpose on this day. Most of the time we got out of the car and played around when we saw interesting places. In the past mid-July, there were still large tracts of rapeseed flowers. Although they did not belong to any scenic spot, they still made people feel gentle and happy. Personally, I feel that the Sangsang Prairie is not as breathtaking as the scenery seen along the way. Be sure to observe carefully on the road, you may encounter a Tibetan antelope just like us.

D3 Saga - Manasarovar - Kailash - Zada Tulin - Zada

Total distance: 448km

Driving time: about 7~8 hours

Accommodation: Saga Hotel (No. 6, Gesang Road, Saga County, Shigatse City)

This road is my favorite on the Ali route. From the beginning to the end we can see grasslands, snow mountains, Gobi and soil forests. Standing at the foot of Mount Kailash, you can truly feel the spiritual touch that a sacred mountain can bring to people; you can only feel this when you see the sky clearing up after the rain in front of you at the corner of the road, and the sunshine hitting the two earth pillars. The surprise that the world has given us is that even if we live in Zanda County, the huge bulging mountains behind the county will make people feel as if they are on an alien planet. The impact on the soul cannot be described in words. .

If you prepare to go to Mount Kailash in advance (to Mount Kailash, the total distance is 52 kilometers), you need to arrive at Kailash between three and five o'clock in the afternoon, because you need to walk at least 22 kilometers that day and stay at Zhire Temple.

D4 Zada—Zada Tulin—Zada—Guge Dynasty—Talqin

Total distance: 448km

Driving time: about 7~8 hours

Accommodation: Saga Hotel (No. 6, Gesang Road, Saga County, Shigatse City)

This day's itinerary is the most relaxed of the entire itinerary. Among them, the Guge Dynasty is really an SSSR-level attraction in Ali’s itinerary. There are three Buddhist temples not long after entering the Guge Dynasty. It is recommended to spend some money to get a tour guide. It is almost boring to see them by yourself. Then the tour guide will tell you that you can climb to the top, and the explanation will end there. It is highly recommended to climb to the top here. You will see many holes along the way. The blackened ones on the top are where people lived before the Guge Dynasty, while those without blackening marks are where monks meditated. There are big holes and small holes along the way, and the ruins along the way are also very beautiful. When you reach the top and look down from above, you will really feel that your soul is free. Even if the wind blows on your face and the sand is wrapped in it, I just feel like I'm back in my childhood when I didn't mind getting dirty and had fun playing in the dirt.

Talqin is a small town at the foot of Mount Kailash. If you arrive early, you can take a stroll there. You will see people playing football on the primary school playground, you will see the sunset dyeing the clouds red, and you will see Tibetan grandmothers heading towards the sacred mountain. After praying again and again, you will see happy smiles on the faces of people returning from the mountains, you will see shy Tibetan children mustering up the courage to say hello to you, and you will see beauty.

D5 Talqin-Manasarovar-Laangcuo-Zhongba-Saga

Total distance: 448km

Driving time: about 7~8 hours

Accommodation: Saga Hotel (No. 6, Gesang Road, Saga County, Shigatse City)

Because time was tight on the third day, we went to Manasarovar Lake again. Manasarovar Lake is one of the three holy lakes. The adjacent Laangco Lake is also called the Ghost Lake. Miraculously, the two lakes are The two lakes are only 10km apart. Manasarovar Lake is a freshwater lake while Laangtso is a saltwater lake.

When the sun shines on the lake, you will truly experience the sparkling waves.

D6 Saga - Xixia Bangma Peak - Peikutso - Laodingri - Rongbuk Temple - Mount Everest

Total distance: 472 kilometers

Driving time: 8~9h

Accommodation: Everest Niutou Hotel (50 meters west of Everest Road, Dingri County, Shigatse City). Charges are based on bed space.

Tickets: Tickets for Mount Everest Nature Reserve are 180RMB/person; sightseeing bus (Dingri County to Rongbuk Temple)

If you don’t bring enough clothes, you must remember to rent a military coat before entering the Mount Everest scenic spot. It will be very windy after taking the sightseeing bus up. After entering the scenic area, there are all winding mountain roads with twists and turns. When you reach the pass of Jiaula Mountain, you will probably be shocked by this road when you look down from the observation deck there.

The place we live is at the foot of the mountain, at a low altitude. If you are in good health, it is recommended to stay at Rongbuk Temple. If you are lucky, you can see the Rizhao Jinshan Mountain in the morning. In the past, the Everest Base Camp we talked about was two kilometers above Rongbuk Monastery. However, due to the need of natural environment protection, the base camp is now moved down two kilometers and serves as the new Camp No. 1 together with Rongbuk Monastery Guest House.

The clouds were very thick when we went there. Although we didn't see the whole of Mount Everest, we unexpectedly saw the starry sky and the Milky Way at night. This was probably a surprise that Mount Everest gave to travelers.

D7 Mount Everest - Wula Pass - Gyatso La Pass - Lazi - Shigatse

Total distance: 237 kilometers

Driving time: about 4 hours

Accommodation: Kanghong Hotel (Jijilangka Road, Shigatse City)

D8 Shigatse—Yarlung Zangbo River Tributaries Observation Deck—Lhasa

Total distance: 277 kilometers

Driving time: about 5 hours

The last two days of the itinerary were basically renovating on the way back. There were not many scenic spots. If you wanted to stop, you could stop and stroll around, take a look at the natural beauty, and then return to Lhasa with satisfaction.

Ramble

Everything in Tibet makes people linger, and those beautiful feelings will stay in our hearts longer than memories, becoming the foundation for us to continue to face life gently in the future.
