This is the most simple and lively ancient town in the south of the Yangtze River that I have ever seen, and the commercial atmosphere is basically negligible, bar none! This is Liantang Ancient Town!

Liantang Ancient Town is located in Qingpu District, Shanghai. It is a famous commercial market town in the south of the Yangtze River in ancient times and the hometown of the proletarian revolutionary Comrade Chen Yun.

Liantang ancient town has a long history. It belonged to Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period, to Yue in the Warring States Period, and later became the fief of Chu Chun Shenjun Huang Xie. It has a history of more than 1,100 years. During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, Zhang Zaijun, the governor of the late Tang Dynasty, and his wife Lianshi guarded the town. Therefore, because of the many ponds, it was named Zhangliantang.

The old street is on both sides of the city river in the town, with two stone roads facing each other across the river. "High houses and narrow alleys across the street and houses on small bridges and flowing water" constitute the unique landscape of Liantang. The residential buildings on both sides of the street have double ridges and high eaves, cross-street buildings, river piers, promenades, lanes and deep houses, which give the ancient town a simple, peaceful and quiet appearance.

We went there on the weekend, and there were very few tourists. Except for us, there seemed to be no sight. The atmosphere of life was very strong, and it still maintained a leisurely and original ecology. Some of the shops I saw on the roadside felt like I had seen them when I was very young. look.

It is another place in the mortal world but outside the mortal world. Far away from the hustle and bustle, everything seems to be gentle, time is slowed down, and the years are softened~

Postscript: A friend later recommended Kanazawa Ancient Town, which is also an ancient water town with a lively atmosphere and basically no commercial atmosphere. After we visited, it turned out to be true. I will write about the ancient town of Kanazawa later~
