Longmen Ancient Town

We set out from Hangzhou to explore this "living thousand-year-old ancient town".

Along the Longmen River, the mountain road is winding and there are many strange peaks; the stream is lingering and the trees are green. The sound of water gradually coming into my ears, sometimes light and sometimes heavy, there are deep pools, waterfalls, streams...

Every collision between water and rocks will arouse the inner yearning for Longmen Ancient Town.

Walking there, your body and mind will feel lighter. As I walked, I gradually heard the soft and sometimes heavy sound of water. I looked for the sound and found this - "a living thousand-year-old ancient town"!

"A famous historical and cultural town in China", "Chinese Folk Culture Village", "the largest gathering place of Sun Quan's descendants", "a typical representative of ancient Chinese clan culture"...Just to name one is full of gold, this is Fuyang, Zhejiang· Longmen Ancient Town.

When I first arrived in Longmen, I thought it was just a cookie-cutter ancient town. But when I got closer, I realized that this seemingly ordinary ancient town is actually unique in Jiangnan!

The intriguing stories in its bones are hidden in every bluestone here, and are alive in the bones and blood of every descendant of Longmen Ancient Town.

How “ancient” is Longmen Ancient Town?

According to research, it is more than a thousand years old. As early as the Han Dynasty, villages had been formed in Longmen. It is said that Yan Ziling of the Eastern Han Dynasty visited here and marveled: "The beautiful mountains and clear waters here are better than Luliang Longmen", hence the name "Longmen".

The ancient town of Longmen has an indissoluble bond with the Three Kingdoms. In 980 AD, Sun Zhong, the 27th generation of Sun Quan, moved to Longmen for the first time! As a result, there are still the Sun Ancestral Hall and Longmen Temple.

Here, even the oil, salt, sauce and vinegar are inextricably linked to the Sun family. Therefore, this place has had strong vitality and cohesion since ancient times.

What makes Longmen Ancient Town unique is the layout of the houses in the ancient town. The houses in Longmen Ancient Town do not always face south, but are determined according to local conditions and the shape of the mountains outside. This kind of intelligent layout and structure has left a mark in the history of ancient and modern architecture in my country.

In the golden autumn, when we stroll in Longmen Ancient Town, we feel the narrow alleys and deep roads, the winding paths leading to secluded places, and the beautiful scenery at every level, and explore the historical relics.

Longmen Ancient Town still retains more than 300 ancient residences from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and more than 30 well-preserved ancient halls. It has become the most authentic specimen site of Hangzhou style residences.

Longmen Ancient Town is full of the charm of Jiangnan and exudes a strong cultural heritage of Huizhou.

The old streets are long and the ancient alleys are deep.

Wandering in this thousand-year-old ancient town, what makes people feel is not only the simple folk customs here, but also the warm history, which is unfolding before our eyes.
