Day 27

  • August 17, 2020
  • Starting point: Feilai Temple
  • Destination: Gray Snow Mountain Lakeview Garden Resort Courtyard, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province
  • Main attractions: Meili Snow Mountain (unfortunately, I didn’t see it), Jinsha River Big Bend, Baima Snow Mountain Wild Scenery (unfortunately, I didn’t see it), Napa Sea Wild Scenery, Haba Snow Mountain Wild Scenery (unfortunately, I didn’t see it), Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Wild Scenery (unfortunately, I didn’t see it) )
  • Height: The accommodation site is 2,434 meters above sea level, and the highest point is the Baima Snow Mountain Pass, 4,292 meters above sea level.
  • Weather: Overcast to cloudy to heavy rain

After arriving at the hotel yesterday evening, we looked eagerly at Meili Snow Mountain, hoping that the clouds would clear and the fog would clear and the sun would shine on the mountain. But the result was that the clouds were getting thicker and thicker, and nothing could be seen.

Before going to bed, I looked to the west and prayed that it would be sunny tomorrow morning. After praying, I couldn’t help but look at the weather forecast for tomorrow: light rain.

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was to quickly go to the window, close my eyes tightly, open the curtains, and then suddenly open my eyes.

The direction of Meili Snow Mountain is still covered with clouds and fog, but there are some holes, which reveal the snow and glaciers, as well as the shape of the mountain. The most important thing is that the light is very strong there, and it is obvious that the sun is shining on it.

I happily rushed out to get my camera and tripod. My second uncle had already taken the camera and tripod to the viewing platform on the top floor before me.

I took out the equipment from the car at lightning speed and rushed towards the top floor.

There are probably three scenarios for the development of things: the first is that the situation remains the same; the second is that the clouds get thicker and thicker until everything disappears; the third is that the clouds clear and the fog disperses, and the sun shines on the golden mountains.

If it's the third case, that would be really great. There is a 1/3 probability that it is worth the trip.

We set up the tripod on the top floor and waited for the magic to happen.

However, contrary to expectations, the clouds became thicker and thicker. In about 15 minutes, the entire snow-capped mountains were covered by clouds and nothing could be seen.

It seems that I forgot to fast last night and my prayers didn't work. I really regret eating too much Tibetan pork.

Come on. We put away the tripod and camera in disappointment and went back to the house to wash our teeth and brush our faces.

After breakfast, we left the hotel and headed to Lijiang.

Today is our last day of sightseeing. Tomorrow, we will go separately: my second uncle and his family will go to Kunming, while I will take the return highway and rush to Anshun.

Get your equipment and take two pictures in the yard. The snow-capped mountains are looming ahead, which makes people feel hopeful.

These 5 photos record the entire process of the disappearance of snowy mountains

This is today's trajectory

Not long after leaving Feilai Temple, we arrived at Deqin County. We did not stop but continued walking along National Highway 214

After walking for a while, we came to the dividing line between the new National Highway 214 and the old National Highway 214 (blue circle). It turns out that the old national highway was a winding road through Baima Snow Mountain (or Baima Snow Mountain). Because the mountains here were often blocked by heavy snow, the road was difficult to walk. Later, tunnels and bridges were built under the mountain. Recently, a bridge on the new national highway was in trouble and was undergoing repairs, so the police closed the road and asked everyone to continue to use the old national highway.

But you can’t walk on the old national highway in vain. You must carry the speed limit card given by the police. We have to pass the next checkpoint after 11:08

At 11:08, we arrived at the security check point on time. The policeman at the security checkpoint looked at my card, then carefully looked at his watch twice, and said, you are very accurate in timing, you don’t waste a minute!

Next, we will head to the highlight of today - the Big Bend of the Jinsha River

Occasionally there was a traffic jam due to road construction, so we stood on the side of the road to rest and enjoy the scenery. However, the scenery here is already very ordinary.

The Big Bend of the Jinsha River is a scenic spot with a ticket price of 20 yuan, but due to the epidemic, everyone is given a 50% discount. When I came to the viewing point, I habitually took out the wide angle first, only to realize that it was not useful at all.

There is an observation deck here, and some people are already standing on it, but I think this location is not the best.

This is right in front of the curve. The location here is unique. The focal length of 50MM can completely cover this big bend.

As usual, scan left and right

Also take a look around and in the distance

After leaving the big bend of the Jinsha River and walking forward for a while, we drove the car to the side road and prepared to cook something.

This is where we eat

Next to it is the Jinsha River Canyon

After lunch, we moved on and arrived at Shangri-La. There are obviously more cars and tourists here. We stopped at the blue circle and looked at the wild scenery of Napa Sea, then said goodbye to Shangri-La and continued on.

This is the famous Napa Sea

After leaving Shangri-La, it started to rain lightly. After entering Lijiang, the rain became heavier and heavier. This directly led to the destruction of our Haba Snow Mountain, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the wild scenery along the Jinsha River.

When we came to a meadow, the rain stopped for a while, and the stacked mountains in the distance looked like paintings. Realizing that we might not have many photo opportunities next, we stopped without hesitation.
