Haikou Xiuying Fort is one of the four ancient Chinese forts along with Guangdong's Humen Fort, Shanghai's Wusong Fort and Tianjin's Dagu Fort. It is an important coastal defense barrier in modern Chinese history and a historical witness to the Hainan people's fearlessness of violence and resistance to foreign humiliation. Xiuying Fort is located in Xiuying Village, Haixiu Avenue, Haikou City. Due to its age, it is no longer open to the public and is maintained and protected by the government. The original seawater area on the north side of the fort has been filled in by the subsequent land reclamation project, and there are tall buildings around it. Only the silent cannon can remind people of the troubled history of the past.

In 1890, the Qing government ordered the army to strictly guard the coastal ports to resist the invasion of the French army. After Zhang Zhidong, the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, visited Qiongzhou to inspect the situation in Haikou, he ordered the construction of Xiuying Fort. The fort was built on a small hill about 200 meters away from the coast, facing the sea, commanding the entire Qiongzhou Strait. There are five large and small forts. Gongbei , Town East , Dingxi There are three major artillery batteries. Zhenwu , Zhenwei There are two small forts, and the five cannons were purchased from the German Krupp Gun Factory. The five forts are in a straight line from east to west, and are lined up facing north, looking at the sea with a majestic look. Command Room , with a playground and Barracks The entire area covers an area of 33,000 square meters, and the buildings have been around for hundreds of years but are basically well preserved.
