Travel Guide to Dinghushan Scenic Area in Zhaoqing

Scenic spot introduction:

Although Zhaoqing Dinghushan Scenic Area is located on the Tropic of Cancer, it is different from other areas at the same latitude which are mostly deserts or dry grasslands. It has completely preserved the South Asian tropical monsoon evergreen broad-leaved forest with a history of more than 400 years, presenting a beautiful scenery of mountains and rivers. Therefore, it is praised by Chinese and foreign scholars as the "Emerald on the Tropic of Cancer."

Dinghushan is located 18 kilometers northeast of Zhaoqing city. The mountain is covered with dense forests and rich in springs, which have created many flowing springs and waterfalls in various shapes and sizes. It has become one of the four famous mountains in Lingnan, along with Danxia Mountain, Luofu Mountain and Xiqiao Mountain.
Dinghu Mountain has been a famous Buddhist holy place and tourist destination since the Tang Dynasty. In 676 AD, Master Zhichang, a disciple of the eminent monk Huineng, built the Old Tripod Temple on the southwest peak of Dinghu Mountain. Baiyun Temple Since then, eminent monks have gathered here and built thirty-six temples around the mountain. More and more pilgrims and tourists have come to worship and visit. In the reign of Emperor Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty, in 1633, monks built the Lotus Temple on the Lotus Peak. The next year, the eminent monk Qihe was invited to the mountain to serve as the abbot. He rebuilt the mountain gate and changed the Lotus Temple into the Lotus Temple.
