Introduction to Rongrui Stele Pavilion: Rongrui Stele Pavilion is located on the platform next to the mid-level bridge in Dinghu Mountain, Zhaoqing. It was built to commemorate Master Rongrui, a Japanese monk who studied in the Tang Dynasty. The stele pavilion is nestled in the shade of ancient trees and consists of two parts: the Rongrui stele and the Ronghe Memorial Pavilion. A new stele is erected diagonally opposite the stele pavilion, which records Master Rongrui's contribution to the development of friendship and cultural exchanges between the Chinese and Japanese peoples. contribution.
Master Rongrui was a monk at Fuxing Temple in Nara, Japan. He studied in the Tang Dynasty in the 21st year of Tang Kaiyuan (733). In the 2nd year of Tang Tianbao (743), he went to Daming Temple to invite the great monk Jianzhen to travel to Japan to spread Buddhism. In the seventh year of Tang Tianbao's reign (748), Master Rongrui and the great monk Jianzhen made their fifth eastward journey. However, when the ship reached the sea of ​​Zhoushan, it encountered a hurricane. They went through many hardships before landing in Yaxian County, passing through Leizhou, around Wuzhou, and finally arrived in Guilin. In the ninth year of Tang Tianbao's reign (750), they were preparing to go north, so they took a boat down the Xijiang River. However, when the boat arrived at Duanzhou, Master Rongrui became ill from overwork and unfortunately passed away in Dinghu Mountain.
