Augsburg was founded in 15 BC during the Roman Emperor Augustus. At that time, Augsburg was a trading center, and its most prosperous economic period was in the 15th and 16th centuries. Augsburg was brought by two merchant families, Fugger and Wales, who operated distant trade and banking businesses.
