Lao She is a famous Chinese writer and dramatist. He is also the only writer awarded the title of "People's Artist" by the central government after the founding of the People's Republic of China. He was rich in writing throughout his life, and his representative works include "Camel Xiangzi", "Teahouse", "Four Generations Under One Roof", "In This Lifetime", etc. The former residence in Qingdao was where Mr. Lao She lived when he was teaching at Shandong University. The courtyard is simple and solemn, simple and elegant, and many of Lao She's works were completed here. In memory of Mr. Lao She, the Qingdao Municipal People's Government established this place as the "Lao She's Former Residence Memorial Hall" and the "Camel Xiangzi Museum", attracting many tourists and scholars to visit and commemorate.

Lao She's former residence is a double-story granite building. The building faces south and is quiet and beautiful. The memorial hall consists of an exhibition room on the first floor, a tea room and an attic on the second floor. The exhibition rooms on the first floor are divided into preface hall, version hall, creation hall, Qingdao hall, art hall and other parts, which comprehensively display Mr. Lao She’s creation and life during his stay in Qingdao; the tearooms on the second floor are divided into five tearooms, each with a theme. The collection of works named after Lao She has unique characteristics; the attic on the top floor is equipped with three interesting Japanese tea rooms, which are a gathering place for Qingdao's literary and art circles. In the courtyard of the former residence, there is a bronze bust of Mr. Lao She and a sculpture of Xiangzi pulling a camel, allowing visitors to better experience the charm of Mr. Lao She’s works through the images of the works.
