Qingdao Xiao Hong’s Former Residence Travel Guide

Xiao Hong is a famous female writer during the Republic of my country. She is known as the "Literary Goddess of the 1930s". Her representative works include "The Field of Life and Death", "The Story of Hulan River", "Shangshi Street", etc. Xiao Hong is the most miserable and the most legendary figure among the four talented women in the Republic of China. She was in ups and downs throughout her life, but she never gave in to fate. In 1934, she and her lover Xiao Jun came to Qingdao from Harbin and lived at No. 1 Guanxiang 1st Road. Here, the two completed "August Countryside" and "The Field of Life and Death" one after another, and thus achieved a status in the history of modern literature.

Xiao Hong's former residence is built according to the mountain and is a two-story German-style building. The whole body is made of granite, and there are stone steps in front of the building leading to the courtyard. This building was originally the residence of Shu Qun and his wife. When Xiao Hong and Xiao Jun came to Qingdao to escape from the world, they were invited by Shu Qun to live on the second floor. At that time, Xiao Hong was responsible for housework, while Xiao Jun was editing a supplement for a newspaper. The half-year stay in Qingdao could be described as a "spiritual honeymoon" for the two of them. After leaving Qingdao, the two had frequent conflicts, ending their six-year emotional journey. Xiao Hong died of illness in Hong Kong in 1942 at the age of 31.
