Yangshuo West Street is located in the center of Yangshuo County. It is famous for its rich exotic atmosphere and simple ethnic customs. It is one of the oldest streets in the county. The street is 517 meters long and 8 meters wide. The marble pavement is curved in an S shape. The houses along the street are quaint and have strong local characteristics. The small shops on both sides sell all kinds of tourist souvenirs and snacks.
In the past, except for a few shops, most of the residents of Yangshuo West Street were farmers, in a state of half-commercial and half-agricultural, "half village and half shop, can do business and can do farming". In the early 1970s, Yangshuo opened to the outside world, and those Western tourists who were physically and mentally exhausted by the hustle and bustle of the metropolis and the fast-paced work found a "harbor" for rest here. They showed great interest in the local simple and elegant houses and traditional culture, folk customs, and wrote their unique feelings about West Street in tourist guides. In recent years, more than hundreds of thousands of foreign tourists have visited West Street for sightseeing and leisure every year. West Street has a history of more than 1,400 years. It is the oldest and most prosperous street in Yangshuo and one of the important tourist attractions in Yangshuo. The ancient buildings such as the Ming city wall, inscriptions, ancient temples, ancient pavilions, former residences of celebrities, and memorial halls are well preserved. It is paved with locally produced betel nut marble, which is dark green and shiny. On both sides are low brick and tile houses left over from the Qing Dynasty, with white walls and red windows, revealing the simplicity and elegance of Lingnan architecture. Most of the buildings on West Street are old houses from 60 or 70 years ago, and some are from the Ming and Qing Dynasties, so the history is quite long.
