Changsha Bamboo Slips Museum is the first modern special museum in China and currently the only modern special museum in the world that integrates the collection, protection, arrangement, research and display of bamboo slips. The museum houses 140,000 commemorative slips from the Sun and Wu period of the Three Kingdoms unearthed in 1996 and more than 20,000 commemorative slips from the early Western Han Dynasty discovered in 2003. Other collections such as bronze, lacquer wood, calligraphy and painting, gold and silver are also extremely rich. In addition, many personal collections of Changsha kiln porcelain are also on display in the museum, allowing every visitor to not only understand the extensive and profound history of bamboo slips, but also to recognize some other precious cultural relics in Changsha.

The Slip Museum is located at No. 92 Baisha Road, Changsha City, adjacent to Tianxin Park. The museum is divided into three floors, with basic exhibitions, temporary exhibitions and a research center: the basic exhibition includes the most important special exhibition of bamboo slips, which displays a large number of precious bamboo slips and cultural relics unearthed in Changsha and related knowledge of various types of slips. Exhibition boards, etc.; the Changsha Cultural Relics Essence Exhibition introduces Changsha’s bronzes, porcelain and other treasures in detail one by one. Temporary exhibitions cover various art exhibitions such as calligraphy and painting, and some auctions are also held here.

1. The number of visitors is limited to 2,500 in the morning and 1,500 in the afternoon.

2. Heavier items that are difficult to carry can be stored for free at the service desk and retrieved before 16:30.

3. The parking lot in the museum is only for team vehicles.

How to get there:

Bus route: Take No. 122, No. 202, No. 314, No. 402 Loop, No. 406, No. 803, No. 908 East Line, No. 908 West Line, Lv 2 Road, and Lv 3 Road in Changsha City to get directly to the museum.

Self-driving route: Take Fenglin 1st Road in the city, pass Juzizhou, and then pass through Wuyi Avenue → Furong Middle Road; the museum is close to Tianxin Park.

Ticket price for slips:

With a valid ID, go to the ticket collection office to collect tickets for free.

Scenic area opening hours:

Every Monday, Wednesday to Sunday: 9:00-17:00 (stop collecting tickets and entering the museum at 16:30).

Closed every Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, the first and second day of the first lunar month.
