Scenic spot introduction:

Baling Bridge in Xuchang is famous all over the world because it is said to be the place where Guan Yu, the famous general of the Three Kingdoms, resigned from Cao Cao. At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao took the emperor to order the princes, and took Liu Xie, the last emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, to Xuchang for 25 years. Xuchang became the last imperial capital of the Eastern Han Dynasty. Later, the three kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu were established, and Cao Cao's son Cao Pi designated Xuchang as one of the five capitals of Wei. Therefore, people have always called Xuchang the "Old Capital of Han and Wei" in history.
In the spring of the fifth year of Jian'an (AD 200), Cao Cao conquered Xuzhou, defeated Liu Bei, Fu Guan Yu, and returned to Xu. Treat him well and treat him kindly. Yu is well aware of his new kindness, but he never forgets his old master. He protects Liu Bei's second wife and seeks his brother Qianli. Cao felt sorry for him and chased him to Baling Bridge to present him with robes and wine to celebrate his departure. Suspecting that he was being deceived, Yu immediately rode on the bridge, picked up his robe with a knife, bowed his head and left. He began the epic feat of riding thousands of miles alone and defeating generals.
Civil servants and generals from past dynasties admired Guan Yu's spirit of "loyalty" and left many calligraphy treasures after visiting here to pay their respects. There are two existing stone steles on the east reading platform of Baling Bridge, both of which were left in the Ming Dynasty. The south side is a stele with a picture of "King Guan's resignation to Cao Cao" left during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. The north side is a stele with a handwriting of Zuo Liangyu, the commander-in-chief of the late Ming Dynasty. The bridge was destroyed and repaired intermittently, and its original shape changed early. Later, due to water conservancy construction, the original bridge was demolished, and only a stone inscription of "Ci Cao Tu" remained. The Guandi Temple to the west of the bridge was built by future generations to commemorate Guan Yu.
