The Han Wenggong Temple in Chaozhou is the earliest existing temple in China commemorating the Tang Dynasty writer Han Yu. The temple was built in the second year of Xianping in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is located on the east bank of the Han River to the east of Chaozhou city and under the "Shuangshi Stone" on the middle peak of Bijia Mountain. Bijia Mountain is also called "Han Mountain" because of Han Yu.

In the 14th year of Yuanhe in the Tang Dynasty (819 AD), Han Yu, a famous politician, thinker and writer, was demoted to the governor of Chaozhou for advising Emperor Xianzong on the Buddha's bones. During his more than seven months in Chaozhou, he brought the advanced culture of the Central Plains to Lingnan, provided education, drove away crocodiles, and did many good things for the people. He was worshipped as a god by the Chaozhou people, who renamed Bijia Mountain as Han Mountain and the Erosion Creek at the foot of the mountain as Han River.
In the second year of the Xianping reign of the Song Dynasty (999 AD), Han Temple was built under the advocacy of Chen Yaozuo, the magistrate. Su Shi wrote the famous "Inscription on the Temple of Han Yu in Chaozhou", saying that Han Yu "revived the literature of eight generations and saved the world with his teachings." This became the consensus of the world. Han Temple was renovated and rebuilt many times in the Yuan and Ming dynasties, no less than 20 times. It is located on a high and spacious site, with an ancient and elegant structure. It is divided into two parts, front and back, and has two corridors. Statue of Han Yu There are Inscriptions of past dynasties There are 36 tablets, the earliest of which is Su Shi's "Chaozhou Han Wengong Temple Stele", which was moved here from the south of the city and placed under the south wall of the main hall. The front and back beams of the temple also have plaques inscribed by modern people for the reconstruction of Han Wengong Temple. Hundred-meter stele corridor The inscriptions of modern celebrities' comments on Han Yu's calligraphy are preserved in the museum. In 1988, the " Shilang Pavilion ” (Han Yu was once the Minister of the Ministry of Justice, known as “Han Shilang”) covers an area of 328 square meters and is a two-story building with eaves. The lower floor is the exhibition hall, and the upper floor is the “ Han Yu Memorial Hall In the middle of the stone platform in front of the pavilion, there is a stone statue of Han Yu more than 2 meters high.
