The Lama Temple is the largest Tibetan Buddhist temple in Beijing. It is famous for its grand scale, the religious activity site of the Qing emperors, and its special historical role in connecting the Mongolian and Tibetan upper classes. The old site was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty and was the residence of the fourth prince Yinzhen. After the death of Emperor Yongzheng, Emperor Qianlong converted the Lama Temple into a Tibetan Lama Temple. The temple is located in the northeast corner of Beijing's inner city, starting from Xilou Hutong in the south and ending at the inner city wall in the north. It is nearly 400 meters long and covers an area of more than 66,000 square meters. The temple is magnificent and majestic. It is the most popular and effective place for praying in folk legends.The former site of Yonghe Palace was originally the residence of the internal officials of Ming Dynasty. In the 33rd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign in Qing Dynasty (1694), it was built as the residence of the fourth prince Yinzhen (later Emperor Yongzheng). After Yongzheng's death, Emperor Qianlong converted Yonghe Palace into a Tibetan Lama Temple.
