Leizu Temple is a temple built to commemorate Chen Wenyu (Leizu), the first governor of Leizhou in the Tang Dynasty. The temple is located in Yingbang Mountain, five miles southwest of Leizhou City. It is the location of "Leigang Souyi", one of the eight scenic spots in Leiyang. In order to stabilize the border, the Tang Dynasty appointed the native Chen Wenyu as the governor of the prefecture. During his tenure, Chen Wenyu carefully inspected and governed the prefecture, visited the territory, relieved the suffering of the people, and combined politics and religion to make the people live and work in peace and contentment. The people were all prosperous and the customs changed greatly. In addition to implementing benevolent policies, Wenyu deeply felt that the prefecture was an important place in the south of the world, and military strategists would fight for it if there was trouble in the world. On the fifteenth day of the first month of the twelfth year of the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, when the city construction was completed and the civil and military officials were happily patrolling the city, Wen Yu grew two wings and ascended to heaven in broad daylight. All officials saw this and bowed to the ground. Wen Yu died at the age of 68.
