Xiangyan Temple in Xichuan was built in the second year of the Yuan Dynasty (761 AD) by Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty. It was "the Taoist temple of Huizhong's national master of the Tang Dynasty, who granted forgiveness and longevity". It was regarded as a national institution during the reign of Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty. Li Chen, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, shaved his hair and hid here for 7 years. For a long time, it has been known as the four famous temples in Henan together with Dengfeng Shaolin Temple, Luoyang White Horse Temple and Kaifeng Xiangguo Temple. Xiangyan Temple is located in Baiya Mountain in Cangfang Town on the west bank of Danjiang River in Xichuan. It originally had two temples, the upper temple and the lower temple. The two temples are roughly the same size, but each has its own characteristics. It is known as "the houses of the upper temple and the lower temple." Among them, the lower temple was submerged due to the construction of Danjiang Reservoir in the 1960s, and now only the upper temple remains, which is basically a Qing Dynasty architectural style.
