Scenic spot introduction:

St. Thomas Church (Thomaskirche) is one of the largest churches in Leipzig. St. Thomas Church was built in 1212 and expanded into Gothic style in 1496. During World War II, Leipzig was bombed by the Allies. The damaged church was rebuilt after World War II. Today, St. Thomas Church is the resting place of the great musician and "Father of Classical Music" Bach, and has become a pilgrimage site for many Western classical music lovers.

Attractions distribution:

St. Thomas Church was built by Marquis Dietrich, mainly in Romanesque architectural style. Later, it was invested and rebuilt by various nobles. It combines Gothic style, Baroque art style and some Renaissance elements, making this church building particularly outstanding compared with other church buildings.
Bach is a master in the history of Western music. He not only created a vast number of musical works, but also laid the foundation and guided the direction for later music creation. From 1723, Johann Sebastian Bach came to Leipzig to serve as the music director of St. Thomas Music School and the city's music director until his death in 1750. He spent the most important time of his life in this city. In Leipzig, he created classic works such as "Matthew Passion", "Goldberg Variations", "Music Offering", "The Art of Fugue", and many cantatas. However, at that time, he appeared more as a famous organist. There were many people who were more famous than him in composition at that time, so few people knew about him when he died of poverty and illness. In 1829, Mendelssohn premiered "Matthew Passion" in Leipzig, which made Bach's artistic value begin to be valued.
