The Zhayeba Caves in Tibet are one of the four major meditation sites in Tibet during the Tubo period. They are located about 20 kilometers northeast of Lhasa. Zhayeba is famous throughout Tibet for its meditation caves, and it is said that there are 108 of them. The most representative ones are the Dharma King Cave, where the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo meditated; the Moon Cave, where it is said that Guru Padmasambhava practiced dual cultivation; the Patriarch Cave, where Atisha, the founder of the later period of Tibetan Buddhism, lived; and the Lalong Cave, which is said to be the hiding place of the mantra monk Lalong Beiduo in the middle of the 9th century AD. He assassinated the anti-Buddhist and exterminating Tibetan King Langdarma alone in Lhasa, thus becoming a famous figure in history.
