Travel Guide to Wushan Daxi Cultural Relics

Scenic spot introduction:

The Daxi Cultural Site in Wushan is one of the famous ancient cultural sites of primitive society in my country. The cultural site is about 5,000 to 6,000 years old and belongs to the late matriarchal clan to the embryonic stage of patriarchal clan. It is an important relic of the matriarchal society in China's Neolithic Age. The discovery of the Daxi culture reveals a regional Neolithic cultural relic in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which is mainly red pottery and contains painted pottery. It provides extremely valuable historical materials for studying the social and economic development of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River in the Neolithic Age.

Attractions distribution:

The Daxi Cultural Site is located on a three-level terrace at the intersection of the south bank of the Yangtze River and the Daxi River at the east entrance of Qutang Gorge, 15 kilometers away from Fengjie County. The National Cultural Relics Department conducted three excavations in 1958, 1975 and 1976, clearing 208 tombs and unearthing more than 1,200 precious cultural relics, including production tools such as stone axes, stone adzes, clam sickles, and bone needles, ornaments such as jade and Huang, artworks such as hollow stone balls, human face reliefs, and hanging ornaments, as well as vermilion pottery inside and outside, stamped and painted black pottery, curved-bellied cups, cylindrical bottles and other utensils.
