Dayun Temple and Queen Mother Palace Scenic Area is located in the northwest of Jingchuan County, at the intersection of Jinghe River and Weihe River. It is world-famous as the birthplace of the West Queen Mother culture, the site of the West Queen Mother Ancestral Temple, and the holy place for the relics of the Buddha's true body.According to the historical records of inscriptions and cultural relics, the Jingchuan Queen Mother's Palace was first built in the first year of Yuanfeng, Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. It was rebuilt twice in the early Song Dynasty and during the Jiajing years of the Ming Dynasty, becoming the earliest and largest ancestral temple of the Queen Mother of the West in China.
Dayun Temple was ordered by Wu Zetian to collect the Dayun Sutra. It was a royal temple rebuilt on the original site of Daxingguo Temple in the Sui Dynasty. It was famous for the discovery in 1964 of the gold coffin and silver coffin containing 14 Buddha's true relics. It caused a sensation at home and abroad, and was called one of China's "top ten archaeological discoveries" that year.
