Liaoning Shuangtai River Estuary National Nature Reserve is located in Panjin City, Liaoning Province, with a total area of 128,000 hectares. It was established with the approval of the Liaoning Provincial Government in 1987 and was promoted to national level in 1988. Its main protection objects are red-crowned cranes, white cranes and other rare waterfowl and coastal estuary bay wetland ecosystems. Located at the mouth of the Liao River in Liaodong Bay, it is an estuary bay wetland suitable for the reproduction of a variety of organisms. It is formed by the deposition of fresh water carrying a large amount of nutrients and mutual flooding and mixing with sea water. The reserve is extremely rich in biological resources, with 191 species of birds alone. Among them, 28 species are national key protected animals, including red-crowned cranes, white cranes, white storks, and black storks.
