Dongqian Lake is the largest inland natural freshwater lake in Zhejiang Province. The central lake area is vast and surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is known as "the scenery of the West and the spirit of Taihu Lake".

Dongqian Lake is located in the southeast of Ningbo City, only 7.8 kilometers away from the urban area. "The lake carries the water of Qiandai", so it is called Dongqian Lake. Dongqian Lake is a natural lagoon formed by geological movements in ancient times. The whole lake is composed of Guzi Lake, South Lake and North Lake. It is 6.5 kilometers wide from east to west and 8.5 kilometers long from north to south. It surrounds the lake for 45 kilometers and covers an area of ​​20 kilometers, which is equivalent to Hangzhou. Four times the size of West Lake, it can be called "the first lake along the Chinese coast".
Dongqian Lake can be divided into three parts: the West Lake is bounded by Shigu Mountain and Lida Mountain and is called "Guzi Lake"; the northeast lake is bounded by Huli and is called "Meihu Lake". This lake was established in 1961 The lake was abandoned in 1976 and Meihu Farm was established. The rest of the lake was called "Outer Lake". There are seventy-two streams flowing into the lake around it; Sanxia Creek leans to the east, and Quan Yue Creek irrigates it. In the west, Guotong Stream flows to the north, Xiangkan Stream flows to the south, and other streams such as Shangshui, Xiashui, Hanling, Qingshan, Huangju, Zichang, and Daci crisscross the river. Since the Tang Dynasty, they have passed through Lu Nanjin, Wang Anshi, Li Yigeng, and Lu Xianzhi. Local officials in successive dynasties removed clear boundaries and built additional facilities, making it a comprehensively utilized water area in Ningbo.
