The predecessor of Jinan University was Jinan School, which was founded by the Qing government in Nanjing in 1906. It was later moved to Shanghai and renamed National Jinan University in 1927. During the Anti-Japanese War, it moved to Jianyang, Fujian, and moved back to Shanghai in 1946. In August 1949, it merged with Fudan University and Jiaotong University. It was rebuilt in Guangzhou in 1958. Over the years, Jinan University has adhered to the school motto of "loyalty, faith, and respect", focused on cultivating talents with the excellent traditional moral culture of the Chinese nation, and actively implemented the school-running policy of "facing overseas, facing Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan".
