Shandong University is the origin university of modern higher education in China. Its medical discipline originated in 1864, which is the oldest in the history of modern higher education in China. Its main body is Shandong University, founded in 1901. It is the second national university founded in China after the Imperial University of Peking, and the first university in China to run schools according to charters. It is one of the first batch of "211 Project" and "985 Project" universities that the country focuses on building. The motto of Shandong University is: Have a lofty spirit and learn without end. It carries the cultural connotation of Shandong University's century-old history and conveys an inspiring spiritual heritage.

The school is large in scale and strong in strength. It covers a total area of more than 8,000 acres and has formed a school-running pattern of one school in three locations (Jinan, Qingdao, and Weihai) and eight campuses. Six of the campuses are located in Jinan, Shandong Province. Central Campus , Hongjialou Campus , Baotu Spring Campus , Qianfoshan Campus , Software Park Campus and Xinglongshan Campus In addition, there is Shandong University Weihai Branch And the Qingdao Campus of Shandong University. Currently, the Qingdao Campus is still under development and construction.
