Introduction to the Observatory: The Weihai Campus Observatory is the largest astronomical observatory among universities in the country. It is the third unit in the mainland to have the right to name asteroids after the National Astronomical Observatory and the Purple Mountain Observatory. It was officially completed on June 9, 2007. It is located on Majia Mountain on the Shandong University campus and is divided into two domes on the east and west. Among them, the West Observatory manufactured a one-meter-diameter equatorial reflecting telescope for Germany. It is the largest optical astronomical telescope with advanced technology for scientific research in domestic universities. It can be used for asteroid search, supernova search, space debris monitoring, and observation of sunspot activities. Variable source monitoring. The East Observatory is a refractor telescope with an aperture of 30 cm, and is equipped with a Hа telescope for observing sunspots. Majia Mountain is about 100 meters above sea level and borders the Yellow Sea to the north. The air temperature changes on the water surface are relatively stable and the atmospheric turbulence is small, making it suitable for astronomical observations.
