Southwest University is a university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture and Chongqing Municipality. The school is located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain, a national scenic spot in Beibei District, Chongqing, and on the banks of the beautiful Jialing River. It was formed in 2005 by the merger of the former Southwest Normal University and the former Southwest Agricultural University, which originated from the East Sichuan Normal School, which opened a new Chinese school in the southwest region in 1906. It is now a key construction university of the national "211 Project" and "985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform", one of the 60 partner institutions of the national high-level university construction program for government-sponsored graduate students, and a member university of the national "111 Project".
