Scenic spot introduction:
The Tianlong Mountain Grottoes in Taiyuan were founded in the Eastern Wei Dynasty (AD 534-550). Gao Huan excavated grottoes in Tianlong Mountain. Gao Huan's son Gao Yang established Jinyang in the Northern Qi Dynasty as his capital and continued to excavate grottoes in Tianlong Mountain. In the Sui Dynasty, Yang Guang was the king of Jin and continued to dig grottoes. In the Tang Dynasty, Li Yuan and his son started their business in Jinyang and reached their peak in grotto construction. Tianlongshan Grottoes are located on the mountainside of Tianlong Mountain, 40 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi. Tianlong Mountain is also known as Fangshan Mountain, with an altitude of 1,700 meters. The scenery here is beautiful and historically it was the summer palace of Gao Huan, the father of Emperor Gao Yang of the Northern Qi Dynasty. The surrounding mountains are undulating, with lush pines and cypresses all over the mountains, springs rippling from the Dragon King's Stone Cave at the top of the mountains, and clear streams murmuring in front of the mountains.
Attractions distribution:
The Tianlong Mountain Grottoes are located halfway up the cliff between the east and west peaks. Among these grottoes, there are twenty-seven stone kiln caves excavated in the Eastern Wei, Northern Qi, Sui and Tang dynasties. There are eight caves in the east peak, thirteen caves in the west peak, three caves in the north of the mountain, and three caves in the southwest of the temple. The mountain paths between the caves are connected. There are more than 1,500 grotto statues and 1,144 reliefs, caissons and portraits. Each cave was excavated in different years, with the Tang Dynasty being the most common.
