The first day of February every year is the traditional "Bird Respecting Festival" of the Gelao people. Yaoshang's family and nearby villagers all gather together to worship the sacred eagle and sweep the tombs of the Red Army. There are collective hairy dragon dances, puppet shows, Nuo opera performances, singing folk songs, traditional Gelao sports competitions, Gelao song and dance performances in the evening, and bonfire parties, all showing the Gelao culture.
