Xi'an Lantian Ape Man Ruins Travel Guide

Scenic spot introduction:

The Lantian ape-man site is one of the birthplaces of humankind in China. It belongs to the Paleolithic Age and includes two locations: Gongwangling and Chenjiawo in Lantian County. According to paleomagnetic measurements, the geological ages of these two locations are at least 750,000-800,000 years ago and 530,000 years ago respectively. The Gongwangling fossil is the oldest Homo erectus fossil discovered so far in northern Asia. The Lantian ape-man site is located in Gongwangling, Lantian County, about 50 kilometers away from Xi'an. The skull fossils of Lantian ape-man have more primitive characteristics than those of Peking man. Lantian Man is the most important human fossil discovered in my country after Peking Man. This discovery expanded the distribution range of ape-men in my country, enriched human material cultural records, and provided precious scientific information for studying the origins of humans.

The main attractions of the Lantian Ape Man Site include the archway, the main entrance of the site, the exhibition hall, the Lantian Ape Man, the Gongwangling Man skull, the Chenjiawo Man mandible, the Hexagonal Pavilion, and the unearthed site of the Lantian Man skull.

How to get there:

You can take the shuttle bus from Xi'an to Shangzhou, get off at Jiujianfang Station and go south for 1 km; or from Sanfuwan Bus Station, take the bus from Xi'an to Xumiao, get off at Qiancheng Village and walk east It's only 1 km away; you can also go to Lantian County first, transfer to the bus to Xumiao, get off at Qiancheng Village and walk there.
