The Hotaniya site in Xinjiang is known as the "Pompei City of the East". It is one of the largest and well-preserved ancient cultural sites in Xinjiang and has great academic research value. This long and narrow ancient city ruins were the site of the Jingjue Kingdom during the Han and Jin Dynasties. Since the British-Hungarian Mark Oriel Stein first discovered the Niya ruins in 1901, Niya archeology has gone through a process of nearly a hundred years and discovered Many important ancient cultural relics and precious relics have gradually unveiled the mystery of the Niya site.

Attractions distribution:

The Niya ruins are located 20 kilometers north of Kabayaska Village in Minfeng County on the southern edge of the Taklimakan Desert. They are scattered in an area 25 kilometers long from north to south and 5-7 kilometers wide from east to west. The ruins are centered on the pagoda, with remaining Buddhist temples, houses, and cemeteries scattered among them. The farmland, forest belts, canal systems, and smelting sites of the past are vaguely visible. During the excavation process, heavyweight historical relics such as a brocade with the words "Five stars come out of the east and benefit China", Qilu documents, blue-based batik cotton fragments and cotton pants were also unearthed.

Entering Niya requires approval from the local cultural management department and a certain amount of cultural relics maintenance fees.

The only way to visit the Niya ruins is to start from Minfeng County, pass through Kaabaska Village, go north along the ancient river bed of the Niya River, and enter Niya by tractor, desert vehicle or camel.

How to get there:

Driving route: The Niya ruins are located deep in the Taklimakan Desert and can only be accessed by renting an off-road vehicle. You can take a bus from Hotan to Minfeng County and rent an off-road vehicle to go there. Among them, it is 90 kilometers from Minfeng to Imam Gaffar Sadiq Maza, and 60 kilometers from Maza to Niya. This section requires riding a camel and takes a day, so it is necessary to spend the night in the desert. The cost of a camel is about 120 yuan, and the camel worker costs 50 yuan a day. If you can rent a large desert truck in Minfeng for transporting oil fields, you don't need a camel and can save time.

Self-driving route: Desert Highway → S233 → G315 heading towards Hotan Minfeng. The ruins are located to the north of Kaba Askar Village.
