Cáceres (Cáceres) used to be the capital of Spain. Within its Moorish city walls, there are a large number of palaces, national churches, towers, and official residences built in the Middle Ages. Its architectural style combines Romanesque, Islamic, and Northern Gothic. It is one of the best-preserved cities in Europe.

Cáceres has a long history. People began to live here 30,000 years ago. Celts, Romans, and Arabs all set foot here. In 1127, it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Leon and became a part of Extremadura. An important town, the old part of the city still retains the Arab city wall. There were originally thirty towers on the city wall, and ten of them are now there. In 1229, Alfonso IX finally conquered the place. At the end of the 13th century, the nobles from the northern part of the Iberian Peninsula occupied the place and built many palaces and luxurious buildings, thus forming the prototype of the old district of Cáceres. Because the owners of the palace here opposed the Catholic king's fight for the throne of Castile, most of the tops of their palace towers were flattened. In the 16th century, the culture and art of Cáceres achieved important development. The palaces built were influenced by the Renaissance style and constitute the main part of the city's cultural relics.
