Introduction to the statues of St. Peter and St. Paul: There is a tall statue of St. Peter on the left side in front of the door of St. Peter's Basilica. He looks calm and smiling, holding in his right hand two golden keys to heaven given to him by Jesus. In his left hand he holds a scroll of the decrees given to him by Jesus. The strands of curly hair on his head, the wrinkles on his face, the tufts of beard on his chin, and the layers of robes on his body are all carved delicately and realistically.
Peter was the first of the 12 disciples of Jesus. After Jesus went to heaven, he gave him the golden key. Peter became the leader of the Catholic Church. He came to Rome to preach. Later, the emperor of Rome wanted to frame the fault. The Catholics set fire to the city of Rome, then blamed the Catholics and had Peter executed. St. Peter's Basilica was built in memory of Peter.
On the right side of the church door stands another tall and exquisite statue. It is said that it is Paul, another favorite disciple of Jesus. When Jesus was alive, he always followed Jesus with Peter.
