Introduction to Bach's Coffin Lid: Bach's coffin lid in front of the main altar, under which Bach's sarcophagus is placed. Bach's body was buried on July 31, 1750, and the sarcophagus was placed in St. John's Church. In 1950, Bach's sarcophagus was moved to the basement of St. Thomas' Church and covered with a bronze coffin lid.
