Introduction to the Northern Expedition Monument: The Northern Expedition Monument stands in Pinggang, Changzhou Island. It is a 10-meter-high granite monument built to commemorate the military students who died in the Northern Expedition. The inscription written by He Sui, acting administrator of the military academy, reads: "The stones of Pinggang are jagged, and the water of Huangpu is gurgling; the monument will stand for eternity, and will be remembered for eternity." The front of the monument is engraved with "Monument for students of the National Revolutionary Army Officer School who died in the Northern Expedition". The east, west and north sides of the monument are engraved with the names of 353 Huangpu Military Academy students including Cao Yuan, commander of the 1st Battalion of the Independence Regiment who died in the Northern Expedition. However, due to the failure of the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the names of most of the fallen Communists could not be engraved.
