Introduction to the Sacred Relics of Sakyamuni's Nirvana: The Sacred Relics of Sakyamuni's Nirvana is commonly known as the "Reclining Buddha". The niche is 7 meters high, 32 meters wide and 5 meters deep. There are 37 carved statues. It is the most magnificent statue among the Dazu Rock Carvings. The statue occupies the most prominent position in Dafo Bay. Its shape is well-proportioned and its body is round and strong. Since the craftsmen mostly use round knives for carving, the lines of each part of the statue appear thicker and softer, which appropriately reflects the peaceful state of the Buddha during his Nirvana. The entire reclining Buddha only shows the upper body, with his feet hidden in the rock, his right shoulder sunk into the ground, and his left shoulder among the five-colored auspicious clouds, to show that Sakyamuni is lying between heaven and earth.
