The ancient city of Fenghuang in Xiangxi is located in the southwest of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. It is the 101st national historical and cultural city in China. The ancient city has beautiful scenery, a long history and many places of interest. It was once praised by the famous New Zealand writer Louis Alley as the most beautiful small city in China. It is comparable to the ancient city of Lijiang in Yunnan and the ancient city of Pingyao in Shanxi, and enjoys the reputation of "Pingyao in the north and Fenghuang in the south". There are 68 cultural relics and ancient buildings, 116 ancient sites, and more than 120 characteristic residential buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the city. Outside the city, the Tuojiang River winds, the river water is clear, the sound of oars and boats, and folk songs are answered, creating a peaceful and tranquil small city scenery.Fenghuang Ancient Town is a gathering place for ethnic minorities, mainly Miao and Tujia people. It was built during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty and became famous because of Shen Congwen's novel "Border Town". The bluestone streets in the city, the stilt houses by the Tuojiang River, the numerous ancient buildings, and the strong Miao customs constitute the unique charm of western Hunan.

How to get there:
1. If you come to Fenghuang from other places, you usually get off the train at Jishou Station. There are minibuses to Fenghuang at the train station square. They are air-conditioned and cost 10-12 yuan per person. The bus from Jishou to Fenghuang is available from 6 am to 8 pm, and the journey takes about 1 hour.
2. You can also take a taxi (about 4 yuan) from Jishou Railway Station to the South Bus Station to take a scheduled air-conditioned bus, which runs every 20 minutes and costs 12 yuan per person. The entire journey is 52 kilometers, along National Highway 209, and the road conditions are good.
