Travel Guide to Pabenggang Temple in Tibet

Scenic spot introduction:

Pabenggang, which means palace on a huge rock in Tibetan, is located on the Niangre Mountain in the northern suburbs. Pabenggang, commonly known as Pabangka by locals, is said to be where Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng lived thousands of years ago. At that time, Songtsen Gampo went into seclusion here to collect materials to build the Jokhang Temple. It is also the birthplace of Tibetan. The Buddhist temple of Pabenggang still preserves the first stone carving of the six-character mantra in Tibetan history.

Although small, Pabonggang is well-known throughout Tibet for its antiquity and profound Buddhist knowledge. Every Dalai Lama who received ordination and Geshe degree would come to Pabonggang to worship Buddha and hold ceremonies. Today, it is still a holy place for Tibetans to worship. It is said that Pabonggang belongs to Sera Monastery and is the place where the living Buddhas of all generations have been in seclusion. Pabonggang is also the largest Sky Burial Platform . Climbing up from the bottom of the mountain, you will pass The Hall of the Three Avatars , Ten-day Palace , Princess Wencheng's Residence ,until Pabongka Temple .
