Introduction to the Leper King Altar: The Leper King Altar (Terrace of the Leper King) is located to the north of the Dou Xiang Altar and was once the royal crematorium. The carvings on the wall are of the king and his concubines, showing life in the harem. Because many of the carvings have been eroded by wind, and the spots are like lepers, so they are called the Leper King. A mysterious statue stands on a 6-meter-high platform covered with sculptures. The front parapet is decorated with seven layers of elaborate carvings, including numerous apsaras (dancing girls or celestial beings). Even more spectacular are the evil-looking figures in the trench hidden behind the front parapet.
