Introduction to Lanting Eight Pillar Pavilion: Lanting Eight Pillar Pavilion is located on the west side of Tanghuawu. There is a stone tablet and eight stone pillars with inscribed text in the pavilion. The stele is six feet high, five feet wide and one foot thick. On the front is engraved the "Repair of Orchid Pavilion" and "Inscription" in the 9th year of Jin Yonghe's reign. On the back is engraved an imperial poem by Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty. It was originally one of the forty scenes of the Old Summer Palace. A scenic spot in "Shi Linliu", it was moved here in 1917; the pavilion was built in the shape of the "Orchid Pavilion" in the Old Summer Palace, connecting the west end of the corridor, with pointed double eaves, a peacock orchid glazed tile roof, a yellow crown, and eight eaves columns. The "Eight Columns of the Orchid Pavilion" are engraved with the "Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Collection" copied by Liu Gongquan, Yu Shinan, Chu Suiliang, Dong Qichang, Feng Chengsu and Emperor Qianlong, who were great calligraphers in the past dynasties of my country.
